The Walt Disney Company Philippines and Ayala Malls Cinemas joined forces together on May 17 in holding the first-ever exclusive screening of Lucasfilm‘s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in the Philippines.
The premiere was held in Glorietta 4 in Makati and was attended by Star Wars fans and celebrities from various fields.
The screening was preceded by a flurry of Star Wars-themed festivities around Glorietta 4, the main highlight of which was the unveiling of the 7.4-ft statue of the galaxy’s most famous Wookie and Han Solo’s trusted co-pilot, Chewbacca.
As a way of celebrating the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” costumed troopers of the Philippine Garrison of the 501st Legion (the official Star Wars fan group recognized by Lucasfilm) surprised mall-goers with a parade inside Glorietta 4. Earlier, patrons entering the mall were pleasantly shocked to find troopers posted as security at selected entrances.
Not to be outdone, members of Fightsaber PH delighted fans with an impromptu lightsaber exhibition.
The Chewbacca statue can now be seen and photographed at the cinema level of Glorietta 4 and will be toured to other Ayala Malls in the succeeding days.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” opens in Philippine cinemas on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.
