All reality TV shows hope to be as successful as The Voice, but very few actually do. Going strong even after 16 seasons, the singing competition is about to premiere its 17th season this month. Here’s everything we know about it so far.
In the world of TV, 17 seasons is no easy feat. It takes something special to reach that level — a balance of consistency and freshness, understanding what audiences want, and of course, just plain entertainment value.
Lucky for us, The Voice has all of these in spades. In the course of 16 seasons, this reality singing competition has been watched by billions of fans all over the globe.
This season will be no different. Even if the last finale aired only in May, fans are already clamouring for season 17. The good news is, it’s only a few more days until it premiers in September 24.
Before then, here’s everything we know so far about the 17th instalment.
There will be a huge change in the coach line-up
After 16 laps around the rodeo, original coach and Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine announced that he’s leaving the beloved reality show — much to the shock of fans and fellow coach/frenemy, Blake Shelton! While it’s hard to imagine the show without Adam, another world-famous rock star will be coming in the fill the void.
This September, The Voice gladly welcomes Gwen Stefani as their new coach — much to the delight of fans and, of course, Blake Shelton. Shelton and Stefani first met on the Voice during Stefani’s first run as a coach, and would eventually end up dating. Now on her fourth try, everyone is excited to see what new tricks Stefani has up her sleeves!
The No Doubt former front woman will sit in the big red chair next to the other coaches — Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend.
Welcoming back the Knockouts
As fans may remember from the 16th seasons, the Knockouts rounds were replaced by the Live Cross Battles where coaches let their artists perform with another coach’s artists. This proved to receive mixed reviews from fans, especially with the Knockouts being one of the more favoured portions of the show.
That being said, season 17 will see the classic Knockout rounds come back to replace the Live Cross Battles — talk about quick pivoting!
One more (important!) thing is staying the same
With the format changes and Adam’s departure, fans are worried that too much is changing with the show. One thing is staying status quo however, and that is the sass and bite of Carson Daly. The show’s long-time host is returning for season 17 and fans are here for it!
The Battle advisors are ready for action
To help assist the coaches with their artists, the battle advisors are on board once more. For Team Kelly, former Fifth Harmony singer, dancer, and songwriter, Normani is signed on. Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am is in Team Gwen’s corner, while Team Legend has the expertise of singer and producer, Usher. Lastly, Darius Rucker is adding some power to Team Blake.
During the Knockouts, Taylor Swift is back on as a mentor for all teams. Make sure to catch the premiere as well as all the episodes on this season on FOX+!
