The Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Blood Center (PBC) honored global BPO giant Sitel Philippines with the Apolinario Mabini Award as a “Blood Donation Hero” for giving over 190 voluntary blood donations this year.
“Blood donation is a service to Humankind, and by donating blood we help save precious lives,” shared Rashmi Singh, Sitel Vice President of Operations. “This is an extension of one of Sitel’s core values – ‘Work Together’. We are humbled to have the opportunity and proud to contribute to the community to help such a worthy cause.”
The PBC, the government blood bank of the DOH, collects blood through mobile blood donations from voluntary donors. They ensure that donations are safe and ready for hospital use. In the past few years, the PBC has been working with private organizations to encourage more blood donations to ensure that the blood bank is amply stocked.
The blood that PBC gets from donors in the National Capital Region (NCR) and neighboring regions is used in emergency transfusions and other medical procedures. Sitel associates and their relatives count among its recipients and have benefitted from the PBC blood bank.
Nemabelle Abainza, Sitel Human Resource Manager for Shared Services, said that Sitel has been participating in the blood donation drive since 2015. “This is a wonderful way for Sitel to give back to our community. We have donated over 140 units of blood for NCR alone, plus more in our regional locations. Sitel employees find it a great privilege to contribute in such a significant way—sharing part of themselves to help people in need,” Abaninza shared.
