After two years of hiatus due to the global pandemic, AirAsia Philippines is once again parading the streets of Davao City as it joins the colorful and festive 37th Kadayawan sa Davao.
Similar to its previous grand parade floats, AirAsia Philippines’ float showcases the celebration of Davao’s rich and diverse culture. Decorated with Davao’s flora and fauna, the Philippine Eagle and the Manobo tribe, other Davao City landmarks such as the Marco Polo Hotel and San Pedro Cathedral, the AirAsia float also symbolizes the coming together of different tribes and people from different walks of life. AirAsia’s livery which is seemingly taking off above the float signifies that it is now safe to travel.
AirAsia Spokesperson and Head of Communications and Public Affairs Steve Dailisan said, “AirAsia pays tribute to this much awaited festive celebration with our Dabawenyo friends. After 2 years spent in isolation, we are one with Davao in shouting through the skies: We are back. We are here. And we are stronger than ever as we win as one.”
The local government of Davao City has decided to open this year’s Kadayawan festival in public places to boost economic activity. 50,000 local and foreign guests are expected to attend the weeklong activities. While this is still far from the 2019 Kadayawan attendees of 250,000 local and international tourists, the local government said it’s a good start especially in inviting tourists to once again visit the city.
AirAsia Philippines recently launched on August 18 its 4x weekly flights to Davao from Cebu, with plans of increasing to 7x weekly by September. Meanwhile, Manila-Davao flights will also be increased from 21x to 28x weekly next month.
“AirAsia Philippines is now strategically boosting its inter-island route network to support the resumption of economies in different megacities and provinces. More than giving tourists an alternative mode of transportation, AirAsia Philippines would also like to support trade organizations as they slowly recover and restore their operations,” Dailisan added.
