By 2030, the Ajinomoto Group would like to realize two outcomes: Help extend the healthy life expectancy of 1 billion people. Reduce our environmental impact by 50%, while improving business performance

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC Group) is working to reduce environmental impact and regenerate the environment as well as to promote better health and life.

In line with environmental sustainability, APC Group has set its comprehensive roadmap with the following directions: 1) Reduction of plastic waste and ensuring none are leaked out to the environment via landfill. 2) Reduction of food loss and waste by means of improving operational efficiencies and converting edible waste to feeds or fertilizer. 3) Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by using renewable or clean energy sources for our factories. 4) Sustainable procurement of raw materials

As a solution-providing company doing its part in shaping a more sustainable future, APC Group took the lead to promote responsible consumption through the launch of the iconic AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning 45g. The first seasoning in paper packaging in the Philippine market.

This shift to paper packaging provides consumers with an alternative to plastic. AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning 45g’s paper packaging is made from a natural and renewable paper material that can be planted, grown, harvested, and replanted.

“This is a milestone for Ajinomoto as we continue our journey towards sustainability. With every purchase of AJI-NO-MOTO Umami Seasoning 45g, we want our customers to know that they are contributing to a more sustainable world,” says APC Group Chief Sustainability Officer Ernesto Carlos.

For sustainable energy consumption, APC Group partnered with Meralco-owned solar company Spectrum for the solar power energization of the APC factory in Bulacan, aimed at reducing its carbon footprint by 865 tonnes. This is equivalent to planting 2 million trees over 20 years or reducing 3,800,000 km in vehicle travel per year.

To create synergy that will advance the company’s sustainability efforts, APC Group also joined the Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Material Sustainability (PARMS) as an investing partner. PARMS is a multi-stakeholder coalition anchored on spearheading holistic and comprehensive programs to increase resource recovery and reduce landfill dependence

Its ongoing banner program on sustainability, Ilabas ang Sustainabilidad has made significant progress in creating awareness on sustainability and encouraging the practice of reduce, reuse, and recycle. Its online contest received 243 entries where participants shared their do-it-yourself projects putting 3Rs to practice.

“These efforts are just our initial steps towards building a more sustainable world. We hope that through our efforts, we can inspire Filipinos to live a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle for the benefit of present and future generations,” said Carlos.
