Filipino tech-logistics company, Mober, have cemented their commitment to reduce carbon emissions through a partnership with Home Furnishing Retailer, IKEA, for their last mile electric vehicle delivery.

IKEA opened its largest store in the world in The Philippines on November 25, welcoming customers to their new 66,000 square meters facility in Manila. With online orders now accounting for a significant portion the company’s sales, IKEA has embarked on a mission to achieve 100% electric vehicle delivery by 2030.

The partnership announcement comes hot on the heels of Mober’s recent launch of the Philippines’ first electric delivery van. Mober’s electric delivery fleet boasts a service coverage area of 250 km and serves Metro Manila areas. A pioneer of same day delivery, Mober offers transparent pricing and precise tracking of goods.

IKEA Philippines is committed to making all its home deliveries through electric vehicles – as soon as is possible and no later than 2030. IKEA Philippines Manager, Georg Platzer, said: “We are working with our transport partners to support this goal. With the first electric vehicle from Mober for instance, we lower harmful emissions as we deliver home furnishing solutions from our store to the customers’ homes. This is our small collaborative start to tackle climate change and clean transport.”

Corinna Schuler, Director of Sustainability and Corporate Communication for IKEA Southeast Asia, said: “We are excited to be working alongside like-minded suppliers and transport partners like Mober. Together, we can lower harmful emissions while offering IKEA customers the convenience of home delivery. This is a great example of the kind of collaborative action needed to tackle climate change. We are urging authorities in all the markets where we operate to help pave the way to low-carbon economy with positive policies and infrastructure.”

Schuler added “With Mober, we are just getting started on our journey. We are still working toward securing sustainable alternatives to the big trucks we need to deliver large furniture. We hope to see more innovations soon.”

Like IKEA, Mober has its own plans to reduce carbon emissions. In fact, plans are afoot to secure a mixed fleet of 100 units of electric vans and trucks by 2030. CEO and Founder of Mober, Dennis Ng, said: “Our goal with our new electric van fleet is to reduce carbon emissions. We are delighted to be collaborating with retail giants like IKEA that are as committed to the reduction of carbon emissions as we are. We look forward to serving the company’s customers with the same level of professionalism and efficiency that we are known for.”

In addition to providing electric vehicle home delivery services for IKEA Philippines, Mober also provides kiosk services, back-office customer relations recovery as and furniture assembly.
