Pop-novelty singer-songwriter, Eugene Layug, drops his newest wacky track, ‘Kabet Pala Ako,’ on Friday, September 23.

Kabet Pala Ako establishes a quirky plot revolving around the notion of being a “third party” in a relationship. While the prime focus of its narrative is anchored in its zany delivery, given Layug’s artistic trademark, Kabet Pala Ako seemingly presents a consequential story.

“I think I can say that Kabet Pala Ako also tells us the mindset of “It is what it is.” The whole meaning of the song is being a “kabet,” [but] when you look at it, who would have wanted to be a “kabet” at the first place right? So this song actually tells us to move forward and just make fun of our not-so-good past relationship. It’s done. Just make fun of it instead of crying,” Eugene shares.

Written in early 2022, the inspiration for the development of the track springs from what Eugene described as a time in “show business” where “celebrity couples break up.” But primarily, creating a piece that can bring a peal of good laughter to his audience, a work that carries a sense of Filipino humor greatly motivated by his comedic personality, propelled the crafting process of the record.

“A lot of celebrity couples broke up recently, so I got inspired to finish the song, and it only took me minutes.”

He adds, “all throughout the process, the song seems like writing itself because of what’s happening during the time when I was writing the song. Ideas just kept coming and coming, so it’s really just magic, and there you go, the song is done.”

Kabet Pala Ako features a pop-novelty track that gives out a “funny,” “jolly,” and “happy” mood. Creatives behind its sonic arrangement include Eugene Layug himself, Hazel Pascua, Carlo Cruz, and Allen Hao.

“The arrangement overall was just perfect the way it is. The song and our ideas (Hazel Pascua, Carlo Cruz, and Allen Hao) really complement the song to make it even funnier and simpler,” Eugene narrates.

With Eugene Layug’s artistic drive to simply produce creative pieces that may bring laughter to his audience through its eccentric lyricism and instrumentation, his latest single, Kabet Pala Ako, presents a record designed to brighten the listeners’ spirit despite any gloomy experience.

Kabet Pala Ako is now available for streaming on digital music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
