Three former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) superstars-turned-coaches have picked Vice President Leni Robredo as their presidential candidate in the May 2022 elections.

Appearing in a video together with veteran PBA mentor Yeng Guiao, Jojo Lastimosa, Olsen Racela and Johnny Abarrientos declared their full support for Robredo.

Guiao and national team head coach Chot Reyes have earlier backed Robredo’s presidential bid.

In the video, the former PBA superstars said Robredo is the best choice as the country’s next leader based on her qualities and track record as public servant.

“Sa basketball, hindi pwedeng pa-absent-absent kapag may training or laban. Dapat laging present. You show up in the most difficult times,” said Racela, the head coach of Far Eastern University (FEU) and an assistant coach with Barangay Ginebra.

“Sa basketball, hindi ka pwedeng sumuko. Laban lang ng laban, kahit na pinipilit kang i-foul out ng kalaban,” said Abarrientos, now an assistant coach with FEU and the Magnolia Hotshots.

“Kaya ako, bilib na bilib sa lider na taglay ang katangiang ito,” Lastimosa, who now works as Guiao’s assistant coach at NLEX.

With Robredo at the helm, they believe Filipinos have a shot at a better life.
