PLDT’s wireless services unit Smart Communications, Inc. keeps the school spirit alive with the ‘Smart UAAP Cheer Challenge’. Open to all student organizations from the eight member schools of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the challenge encourages students to upload a video showing their support to their university through cheers and yells on TikTok.

“This has been a unique experience for UAAP fans and students of the member schools. But the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic failed to dampen their spirit. The Smart UAAP Cheer Challenge gives them an avenue to proudly cheer for their school wherever they may be,” said Antonette Orpilla, Head of Communities Marketing at Smart.

True to their battle cry of ‘Be Brave’, the boosters and drummers from Far Eastern University (FEU) gathered the troops and took on the challenge. Not to be outdone by the school’s Cheering Squad that topped this year’s cheer dance competition, the FEU Boosters showed the competition why they’re the best on the hardcourt and all the way up to the stands as they bagged the top prize. The FEU Drummers with their heart-thumping beats, on the other hand, took second place honors.

“Thank you so much Smart for the challenge. We were able to showcase how talented we are as Tamaraws and express our passion, pride, determination and spirit on behalf of the FEU community,” said Jai Dela Cruz, Vice President of FEU boosters.

Season 84 of the UAAP marks the reboot of the country’s premier amateur athletic league after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-related health restrictions and protocols. In view of the country slowly adapting to the new normal, the league featured eight sporting events in Season 84 that run on compact schedules.

Smart, as the official digital partner of the UAAP, has also streamed games and events for free through the Smart GigaPlay App, allowing fans to finally experience sports action and cheer for their school again – right at their fingertips.

The special GigaPlay App free streaming is part of Smart’s thrust to enable the youth to pursue their passion for sports, cultivate their school spirit, and root for their favorite teams and players.
