GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet app, continues to honor pioneering government agencies who have utilized digital financial technology to improve the lives of Filipinos every day with the 2022 GCash Digital Excellence Awards, which happened recently at the Blue Leaf Events Pavilion, Mckinley Hills, Taguig City.
“It was during the pandemic that the basic things that we took for granted were changed forever, so even the flow of goods and services was almost disrupted. But thankfully we have forward-looking local government units and government-owned and controlled corporations na mabilis mag adapt,” shared Marth Sazon, GCash president and CEO.
This year’s awardees were recognized in seven (7) different categories.
The Excellence in Digital Ecosystem Innovation Award was awarded to local government units (LGUs), national government agencies (NGAs), and government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) that promoted the adoption of GCash services among their constituents, from public markets and tricycle operators/drivers associations (TODA). The recipients of this award were the City governments of Cagayan de Oro and San Fernando, Pampanga together with the Department of Trade and Industry – MIMAROPA.
The Excellence in Digital Public Services Award was given to public institutions that exhibited significant growth in digital transactions. Awardees included the City Government of Manila, the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC), and the Social Security System (SSS).
The Excellence in Digital Public Aid Distribution Award is a citation for public institutions that took the lead in recognizing quick and effective distribution of government aid by digital means, especially during crises. Taking home the award were the city governments of Makati and General Santos, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 4A, and SSS.
The Digital Financial Inclusion Champion was awarded to partners that made substantial efforts in promoting financial inclusion by providing a conducive environment for digital financial solutions. These partners were ALTA Region 3, Department of Interior Local Government Region 3, and DTI E-Commerce Office: E-Bayad Mo Campaign.
The GCash Digital Excellence Awards 2022 also added new categories. The Excellence in Digital Advancement for MSMEs was awarded to the PangkabuhayanQC Program by the Quezon City government, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Small Business Corporation as they became instrumental in nation-building by digitally enabling micro, small, and medium enterprises.
Meanwhile, the Excellence in Adoption to Government Initiatives was awarded to City governments of Lapu Lapu and Baguio, and Government-owned and controlled corporation, PAG-IBIG for immediately stepping up and adopting current government directives towards digitization.
Lastly, the Excellence in Digital Sustainability Award, which was granted to early adopters that sustained and even expanded the use of financial technology and transformed the community, was given to City governments of Makati, Quezon City, and Tagbilaran along with GOCC awardee, PAG-IBIG.
With an aim to make the Philippines a more financially inclusive and cash-lite society, Ernest Cu, president and CEO of GCash parent company, Globe Telecom, said: “The vision was financial inclusion. Looking at GCash’s numbers with 71 million accounts and over 6-7 trillion in terms of gross transaction value, I think those are clear signs of success.”
