International movie THE EXPAT was shot in the Philippines before the pandemic and it was only released in the US and Canada last month, May 2022.

According to its director, American filmmaker Gregory Segal, the post production- which was done in Thailand- took longer than he projected because of the pandemic and all the lockdown. But he’s happy that the film is finally here.

In fact, last Sunday, July 10, 2022- the said film had a special screening and despite the rain, most of the cast and crew showed up. Spotted were Lovely Abella, Lara Morena, Mosang, Andrew Gan, Chris Leonardo and Sasha Paras among others. Lead actors Lev Gorn and Mon Confiado weren’t able to attend because both of them were shooting on location for their respective projects.

The Expat is a crime thriller about a retired US soldier who is in the Philippines for vacation but gets entangled in a web of murders. Lovely Abella who plays Delilah (the love interest of Lev Gorn) admitted before the screening that while she auditioned for the role, she started having doubts if she could do the movie after reading the script.

“All my lines were in English and I know I wasn’t good, I was scared that I might not be able to deliver my lines but thankfully, my co-actor Lev Gorn was so nice and supportive.” Lovely also added that she’s really glad that she made the right decision of doing the film.

According to the director, he was very pleased with his Filipino cast. “They were all good and professional. I never had any problem with them.” In fact, he wants to do another movie here.

Rated R13 by MTRCB, the film was shot in Ermita and in Puerto Galera. The film is available on various platforms in the US and Canada like iTunes, Amazon Prime Video and Video On Demand.
