Former YouTube and Soundcloud cover artist turned singer-songwriter dia maté launches her new single, “I Wanna Make You Mine.”
The song is fun and hopeful, about falling in love and developing a new relationship with someone that borders on intense attachment—leading to crazy and jealous-driven behaviors.
The song was originally written by Gab Tagadtad. Although dia usually writes her own songs, once her label sent her the demo for “ I Wanna Make You Mine,” it instantly became a song she resonated strongly with. Overall, it retains dia’s RnB and jazzy sound with a fresh mix of pop and funky tones.
Making The Record Her Own
As a track that’s not from her roster of self-written songs, dia shared she had a hard time making the record sound like her own because the original arrangement already seemed complete—finished. But eventually, she found a way.
“I created my own rendition by rewriting a line and adding new harmonies, melodies, and adlibs to align with my style. Most of my work fell in the vocal production of the song.”
The result is a song with catchy instrumental and upbeat pop elements that anyone can dance to. Dia says she had a good time recording the track, in contrast to the more melancholy RnB vibe she usually sings.
At the end of the day, working on the track provided dia with a fresh perspective on the direction of her music and gave her a bit of growth as an artist.
With the song’s appealing and snappy tune, she also expressed excitement about singing the song live, expecting it to be fun and enjoyable to sing and dance with an audience.
On Fan Reception and Breaking Through Genres
dia’s primary concern while producing and recording “I Wanna Make You Mine” is how fans would perceive the record. As an exciting and romantic song, she expects her fans to feel ‘kilig’ and fall in love with the idea of love.
Because it was initially written and produced by someone else, the song gave dia a chance to explore beyond her own writing and musical expression. She said she was able to go outside her comfort zone during the production and recording of the track, noting that fans will get to see a new side of her.
“The closest to this is probably my latest single, ‘Kalimutan,’ which also features a more pop approach with a touch of Taglish. But this new single showcases my more fun, happy, and upbeat side for sure.”
The single also became an accomplishment for dia, expressing that a pop song is something she has wanted to work on before and call her own. And with the release of “I Wanna Make You Mine,” she finally managed to break through to the genre.
“I will probably explore this genre more in my next releases. Fans can also expect my music to continue to be real, raw, and authentic. Music that will always speak from my heart.”
