Leni (center) and Angat Buhay trustee Atty. Stella Pastores-Esquivas, head of the #AngatSining pillar. Team Museo was accepting the recognition on behalf of visual artist Robert Alejandro.

When the Museo ng Pag-asa opened its doors to the public last year, it became more than just a place to exhibit the many gifts that Atty. Leni Robredo received during her presidential campaign. It also became a beacon of hope for those who aspire for and work toward a better future for the Philippines.

To mark its first anniversary, the Museo ng Pag-asa has organized the “Pista sa Museo,” a series of events happening throughout September to show appreciation for all those who have visited, and worked hard to build and support the museum.

The kick-off event for “Pista sa Museo” was held last September 4 at the Museo ng Pag-asa grounds. After a brief message from Angat Buhay Foundation’s (ABF) Executive Director, Raffy Magno, plaques and certificates were awarded to Team Museo, the Museo’s partner merchants, and its top three donor merchants.

For this historic occasion, the family of National Artist Abdulmari Asia Imao, through their eldest son, multimedia artist Toym Imao, presented the Museo with the very first copy of 300 giclée prints of a 2014 Sarimanok painting in support of ABF’s arts and culture programs. The gift was humbly accepted by Atty. Robredo mentioned that the prints will be made available in the Museo’s store for those who would like to support ABF’s efforts for Arts and Culture.

During the same event, Atty. Leni also announced the new pillar of the Angat Buhay Foundation—Angat Sining.

The Angat Sining Fellowship for Young Filipino Artists is a program that aims to bring the healing and transformative power of art to marginalized communities through exposure trips, talks, and training sessions. By providing young, emerging local talent with the rare opportunity to have as their mentors established Philippine artists such National Artist BenCab, Toym Imao, Mark Justiniani, and Ilustrador ng Kabataan (INK), the fellowship seeks to provide a platform for its participants to further develop and hone their craft. The fellowship will culminate with a special exhibit in April 2024 at the Museo ng Pag-asa.

Along with the launch of Angat Sining, Atty. Leni also announced various events happening throughout the month at the Museo, including a new exhibit called “PINKS NOT DEAD” by Camille Quintos and Francis Natividad at Silid Salaysay.

Starting on the third week of the month, don’t miss the daily events happening in the Museo, such as: “Gabi ng Musika” on September 20, “Araw at Gabi ng Sayawan” on September 21 with zumba in the morning and ballroom dancing at 5PM, the viewing of “ROSAS The Song, The Journey” on September 22 at 5 PM, the “Radikal Self-Expression Day” with the fiercest drag queens on September 23, and a special family day celebration on September 24.

The “Pista sa Museo” is more than just a celebration to thank the community, the Museo’s hardworking staff, and its many visitors for their unwavering support—it is also a way to honor and appreciate all that has happened this past year and propel the Museo to continually inspire our fellow Filipinos to hope and dream of a better country.
