Pru Life UK has conferred the 2023 Gold Quill Award of Merit in the Special and Experiential Events category for the Cha-Ching Money Adventures Game Launch & Mall Tour. Cha-Ching is a globally recognized and award-winning financial education program for children aged seven to twelve, developed by Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm in Asia and Africa of Prudential plc, Pru Life UK’s parent company.
A web-based interactive learning game, Cha-Ching Money Adventures takes a captivating and age-appropriate narrative approach to teach children four fundamental money management concepts: Earn, Save, Spend, and Donate. The game was launched at Alabang Town Center in Muntinlupa City, alongside booths and on-ground activities designed to boost the learning experience.
“We are honored to be one of the prestigious Gold Quill Award recipients. The Cha-Ching program stands as a testament to Pru Life UK’s We DO commitment, and this recognition inspires us to strengthen further our financial literacy initiatives to help many more Filipino families get the most out of life,” says Eng Teng Wong, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pru Life UK.
“Cha-Ching provides children with crucial life skills, knowledge, and values around money management and was created over a decade ago to help children and families navigate a more financially secure and successful future. Cha-Ching Money Adventures was created to supplement the primarily curriculum-based program, to bridge the gap between what is learned in schools, and foster conversations on managing money wisely within families. We are very pleased that Cha-Ching Money Adventures has been given this recognition and hope that it will continue to inspire more families to equip themselves with key life skills,” says Marc Fancy, Executive Director of Prudence Foundation.
Each year, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) recognizes and celebrates excellence in strategic communication through the Gold Quill Awards, attracting numerous entries worldwide.
A decade of educating Filipino youth
In response to addressing the global financial literacy gap, Cha-Ching was initially created in 2011 as a series of animated, music-based cartoons developed in partnership with Cartoon Network and Emmy award-winning children’s educational specialist, Dr. Alice Wilder. In 2016, the school-based curriculum was developed to instill the four key money management concepts of Cha-Ching: Earn, Save, Spend, and Donate. Last year, Cha-Ching Money adventures was created in partnership with Two Moos and Education Development Center to supplement the lessons learned through the curriculum.
In 2022, Education Development Center researchers conducted an evaluation study on Cha-Ching Money Adventures in the Philippines, to determine its appeal and effectiveness for eight to nine-year olds playing the game at home. The key findings concluded that the game measurably improves children’s financial literacy, it helps foster family conversations about money and is fun and engaging for this age group of players at home.
In partnership with Junior Achievement Philippines, over 850,000 youth have been taught the Cha-Ching curriculum by over 21,000 teachers in the Philippines to date. Globally, over 1.4 million children have been taught Cha-Ching and 40,000 teachers have been trained to reach as many children as possible.
In 2023, Cha-Ching Money Adventures was awarded two Silver Anthem Awards. In 2022, Cha-Ching won a Silver Stevie award at the International Business Awards, was recognized as the Best Non-profit in a Developing Economy at the inaugural Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards (MAIA), and was the winner of Insurance Asia Awards best ESG programme, Hong Kong.
