Pop singer-songwriter shazza may have started releasing music only a year ago, but she already has the sensibilities and instincts of an experienced artiste. With her raw potential and lyrical ability, she was selected as part of Spotify’s global RADAR program for Singapore and Malaysia, an initiative meant to grow and groom developing artists to the next level.
Her debut album which was released last July 28th, is an amalgamation of the music she has released thus far, along with a diverse set of four brand new tracks. Aptly titled chapter one, these songs tell the story of her first steps in her foray into the music industry, pursuing a lifelong dream of being a professional artist. chapter one drives home shazza’s main intent in making music — to fully embrace the spectrum of human emotion while providing a little something for everyone in her songs. Chronicling the stories told in her ‘chapter one’, shazza describes the album as an old, familiar old friend that you’re getting reacquainted with.
“It’s a trip down memory lane for me, but it also has a sprinkle of new life with the four additional tracks I chose to include in it. chapter one is a very meaningful body of work to me, and I hope for it to be followed by many more chapters in my future. I’m really excited for it to be out and hope people will love it as much as I loved making it.”

Growing up, shazza always had a penchant for crafting stories out of words, having written her first song at the tender age of 11. A decade later of pursuing her passions, shazza covers a wide array of different styles within the pop genre, and is no stranger to experimentation. The lead track of the album ‘BUTTONS’ captures shazza’s purpose in making music perfectly.
“I feel that it encapsulates what my sound has been so far and what I’ve been trying to do with my music. It’s a full-on pop sound, filled with fun wordplay, and it tells a story I think many people can resonate with,” she explained. “BUTTONS” is also shazza’s first collaboration track, featuring fellow artiste and creative Kidmeddling. The pair, who also happen to be siblings, can be seen supporting each other frequently on various musical projects.
For shazza, this is just the beginning. The young singer-songwriter has dreams of making it big – both in her home country and internationally.
“One of my biggest goals is to write or sing a song for National Day. I’ve always believed that it starts at home, so as cliche as it sounds, no matter where the wind may take me over the course of my career, I know I’ll always land back here.”
Expressing her gratitude for the love and support shown towards her thus far, shazza knows not to take anything for granted. With the past year giving her better clarity towards what she wants for herself and her career, she looks to give meaning to everything she creates.
“When I started this out last year with Pity Party, I wasn’t sure where it was gonna take me and it was really a “hope for the best” kind of situation. It means the world to me that my music resonates with people because that’s what gives it meaning in my opinion. Life is short and I’d like to do it all while I still have the chance.”
To commemorate this milestone, shazza will have an album showcase on September 2nd at the Esplanade Theatre in Singapore. Featuring an 11-piece band, along with some special surprise guests, fans will be in for a treat. shazza gushed about the upcoming showcase. “I’m so excited to share everything we’ve got planned! We’re aiming for full-on concert-type energy. It’s going to be a night to remember!”
