Sun Life Philippines’ Chief Human Resources Officer Michelle Cordero-Garcia has been recognized as one of the 100 most influential HR leaders in Southeast Asia by leading media platform The Economic Times-HR World (ETHRWorld) in its first-ever HR Icons list.
According to ETHRWorld, the list aims to celebrate the remarkable HR initiatives over the years and gain perspectives on the HR vision for 2023. Cordero-Garcia is one of only nine HR executives from the Philippines to make it to the list.
“I am honored to be recognized alongside some of the region’s most outstanding HR executives. I thank ETHRWorld for this honor,” Cordero-Garcia said. “This will surely inspire my journey as a people leader, especially as I embrace the great opportunity of our vocation, which is to influence and engage our people with empathy while enabling our organization to be future-ready.”
Cordero-Garcia joined Sun Life in August 2022. Barely a year into the role, she has already marked significant achievements as she led Sun Life’s culture-building programs and helped the company navigate through calamities, changing work landscapes, and other challenges brought on by the continuing pandemic in the past year. With over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, Cordero-Garcia is considered a thought leader in the profession and is also a sought-after speaker. She has previously served as National President of the People Management Association of the Philippines and has been on its Board for many years now. She is likewise a member of the Society of Human Resources Management and was a member and tower lead of the HR Council for the Contact Center Association of the Philippines from 2021 to 2022.
Sun Life Philippines CEO & Country Head Benedict Sison lauded Cordero-Garcia for her achievement. “The recognition from ETHRWorld is certainly well deserved. Michelle has proven to be an excellent and passionate leader, and with her on board, Sun Life will surely be more empowered to achieve its transformation ambitions.”
