Fueled by an unwavering passion for volunteerism and a strong desire to uplift local communities, TELUS International Philippines (TIP), a leading digitally-enabled customer experience and business process solutions provider, participated in its ninth Department of Education’s (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela program, benefiting close to 5,000 students during its annual TELUS Days of Giving (TDOG) volunteer event.
On August 12, in support of the DepEd Brigada Eskwela program, 1,000 TIP team members renovated Lakan Dula High School, which is one of the oldest established educational institutions in Manila, to prepare its students for the upcoming academic year. From sprucing up 60 classrooms, as well as several hallways and staircases, to refurbishing 368 chairs, and donating 180 electric fans and 200 new chairs, TIP team members worked together with students and teachers from the high school to create a welcoming and inspiring learning environment. Prior to the TDOG Brigada Eskwela event, TIP team members also repaired windows and installed new flooring in several damaged classrooms at the school.
“The volunteer efforts of our team members and our company’s community investments continue to be a cornerstone of how we are able to bring our culture to life in all that we do,” said Jeff Puritt, President and CEO of TELUS International. “At the core of TELUS International’s values lies a profound sense of purpose to enable meaningful opportunities for all citizens in the regions where we operate. This includes supporting the creation of a strong, quality academic foundation that can help students thrive and unlock their full potential, which in turn benefits their families, the communities where they live, and society.”
The impact of this year’s event extended far beyond the walls of the school. The culture of giving back at TIP has helped our team members feel empowered to continue doing meaningful work within and outside the workplace. Team members have also gained valuable skills and experiences that have enhanced their personal and professional growth, built camaraderie and networks across our company, and fostered a greater sense of purpose.
Rajiv M. Dhand, TELUS International’s Regional Vice-president for APAC and Africa, stated, “Supporting educational programs from the Department of Education for the Filipino youth has been a long time initiative for us. Since we have started this, thousands of team members participate in education-focused CSR programs we organize including donation drives to raise funds for distance learning modules, and virtual volunteering activities, on top of the thousands who participate in our TDOG Brigada Eskwela yearly. Our team members have not only built a stronger bond but also helped pave the way for a more promising future for public school students so that they can be more equipped to take on the next level of their academic journey or eventually build careers to contribute in improving their lives and their families.”
Throughout the years, TELUS International Philippines has achieved remarkable progress in driving meaningful impact by actively engaging its team members in various community-oriented initiatives. Since 2014, more than 16,000 TIP volunteers have dedicated more than 77,600 hours through our TDOG Brigada Eskwela events to improve nine schools across Metro Manila, benefitting an estimated 56,000 students.
“It makes me happy that our company allows us to harness our passion for local causes,” stated Renz Jacinto, TELUS International Philippines team member. “TDOG has exposed us to different communities and realities, and this opened opportunities for us to be of help whenever and wherever it is needed.”
