Did you see the big heart mural at Market! Market! last weekend from June 9 to 10?
The giant heart-shaped installation features an image that appears blurred—as if censored out of sight. Turns out, it’s part of closeup’s latest campaign for 2023’s Pride Month, and with more locations for it to appear soon.
The Installation
A closer look reveals that each “pixel” is a small portrait of an LGBTQIA+ couple displaying their love. The whole composition reveals itself to be a collection of unique and beautiful stories from the community. From couples kissing, holding hands, or simply being closer to each other, the installation exhibits a celebration of love through the portraits which would otherwise be played down or outright censored in popular media.
closeup is known to always celebrate love all year round; so it’s no surprise that their #FreeToLove Pride campaign honors different couples from the LGBTQIA+ community while encouraging more people to be more open to seeing all types of love.
A QR code on the installation also directs people to a link featuring the stories of couples who got closer with pride.
The installation features a more visible representation of love as it also offers a selfie opportunity for those passing by. Couples are encouraged to take a selfie together using the mirror and share it online in support of the LGBTQIA+ community and closeup’s campaign.
