Shangri-La Plaza is all set to usher in all the good fortune in the Year of the Rabbit with its lineup of Lunar New Year or Spring Festival festivities.

The Year of the Rabbit is right around the corner. In Chinese culture and astrology, the Rabbit is one of the luckiest of the twelve animals of the zodiac as it’s a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity. Shangri-La Plaza is all set to usher in all the good fortune in the Year of the Rabbit with its lineup of Lunar New Year or Spring Festival festivities.

To kick off its celebration, Shang has partnered with The Bistro Group that’s known for its collection of international hospitality casual dining brands and homegrown concepts to greet this new beginning with a Prosperity Toss at Modern Shanghai, the latest The Bistro Group restaurant at the Shang. Featuring menu offerings derived from Shanghai’s most original homecooked recipes, this beloved resto offers the authenticity of local Shanghai cuisine in casual and simple ways, serving hearty meals that are best shared with loved ones.

Known as “yee sang”, Prosperity Toss is a raw fish salad with mixed shredded vegetables and sauces. A Lunar New Year tradition, family and friends usually gather around the dish and toss the salad together. The aim is to toss the salad higher each time while wishing each other good fortune for the new year. It’s believed that blessings are woven into the salad with each toss, before being enjoyed by all.

Appreciate Chinese art. Marvel at unique posters created by the students of the Ateneo Celadon at the Grand Atrium until the Lunar New Year January 22. On the same day, mall guests can have the opportunity to express their creativity by joining an hour-long Denim painting workshop also at the Grand Atrium.

Watch a flick at the Spring Film Festival. One of the beloved film festivals in the country is back at the Shang! The Spring Film Festival runs at the Red Carpet Cinema until January 24. This year’s lineup showcases the beauty of ancient and modern China and explores a wide range of themes including self-discovery, transcendental love, and longing.

Enjoy street eats and treats. Catch the great fireworks display on January 21 at 8PM to welcome the year of the Rabbit! Browse and buy Lunar New Year eats and unique finds as Shang’s Streetscape transforms into a Chinese Street Market from January 20 to 22.

Catch traditional Chinese music performances. Get into a festive mood on January 22 as Shang presents special musical performances featuring Chinese classical music using traditional instruments at the Grand Atrium, 4:30PM. Mall guests can expect to watch exciting dragon and lion dances too. A highlight in every Lunar New Year celebration, both the dragon and the lion are considered as auspicious creatures in Chinese culture, performing these traditional dances during festive occasions are meant to chase evil spirits away and welcome prosperous times. To be more specific, the dragon represents power, boldness, and excellence, while the lion symbolizes strength, stability, and superiority.
