Singer-songwriter Adjeng has been all over the place for the past year – from spotting the latest concerts and plays in the Metro to simply being a loving wife and mother to her children. Despite being out and about, the veteran lyricist continues to be a musician on a mission and prepared herself for her biggest musical project thus far. Today, she releases her debut album ‘Unravel’, an eight-track treat for her listeners, with the carrier single ‘Still Kilig’ out on digital music platforms.
Taking inspiration from personal milestones and events, Adjeng aptly titled her album ‘Unravel’ as a way for her to bare herself to her listeners. To ‘unravel’ means to ‘undo or untangle woven threads, and to reveal something that has been knit together’. “My music is constantly in the state of unraveling, and in the seasons of my life, I often ask myself, When things unravel, what is our response?” she shares in an interview. Her debut album serves as a love letter to all these experiences, all done through her honest songwriting, authenticity, and unwavering passion for the craft.
Adjeng’s newest single off the album, ‘Still Kilig’ is a love story in its own right – one where Adjeng sings about her loving relationship with her husband and how it continues to unfold as the years go by. “‘Still Kilig’ is a song that I wrote and composed during the recent FILSCAP Songwriting Camp Year 5. It also marks the first time I got to work with keyboardist and music producer Gino Cruz, who arranged the song. It shares my take on my marriage’s ‘recipe for kilig’”, she gleefully shares. More than just the recipe for kilig, it also sheds light on the ups and downs of a long-term relationship and how to keep a marriage thriving after all these years.
Apart from the new single, ‘Unravel’ contains Adjeng’s classic hits, ‘Rollercoaster’, ‘More Than A Little’, ‘Be Kind’, ‘Kaya Mo Yan’, and ‘Must Be Love’. The album also introduces new tracks ‘Never’ arranged by sought-after music arranger Arnold Buena, and ‘Quicksand’, a collaboration with acclaimed musician and arranger Niño Regalado.
