Beth McKenzie’s unhinged new single “She’s Finally Lost It!”

Beth McKenzie continues her rise to pop stardom with new single ‘She’s Finally Lost It!’. Pairing stingingly honest lyricism with defiantly upbeat production, it’s a dazzling immersion into the Manchester-based songwriter’s rule-bending vision.

A step away from the indie pop sombreness of ‘Don’t Tell My Boyfriend’, the latest cut taps into yet another side to Beth’s artistry. Floating above an undercurrent of propulsive beats and reverb-laden vocoder effects, the multi-instrumentalist’s unique vocal delivery shines through. Unapologetically expressive – and equally taunting – Beth’s leading vocals detail a harrowing story of power abuse within the music industry. “I went from being promised the earth to being manipulated and controlled by someone.” she explains.

Capturing the emotional turmoil surrounding questioning her own sanity, it’s a lyrically cutting offering that flickers between moments of helplessness, isolation, and touches of empowerment. Woven together by Beth’s confessional storytelling, it solidifies her ability to narrate challenging topics with effortless precision.

Expanding on the track’s making, Beth says “The lyrics came easily but, at first, musically the song was very dark and sombre, and it just didn’t work. My producer and I decided on a radical change and created an upbeat, edgy sound that captures the sheer insanity of the whole situation.”

‘She’s Finally Lost It!’ arrives following comeback single ‘Don’t Tell My Boyfriend’, which gained traction on TikTok earlier in the year, resulting in a deal with Las Vegas-based label Handwritten Records (KiNG MALA, Jean Dawson, Rachel Bochner). With songwriting acting as an outlet for Beth since her teenage years, the newly signed artist is now entering a new chapter in her journey.

Citing influences ranging from Lily Allen and Paloma Faith to Chappell Roan and Gracie Abrams, Beth combines ‘00s British pop nostalgia with refreshing Gen Z transparency. While a departure from her classical musical upbringing, it’s a formula that has already seen the Stockport-born musician amass a fast-growing fanbase and support from the likes of BBC Introducing, under the radar, and Jodie Bryant’s Discover Playlist. With her diaristic storytelling and captivating vocal delivery acting as a guiding thread throughout her work, these trademarks are only set to strengthen in her debut project.

The 5-track EP, due later this year, sees Beth weave between vibrant indie pop and edgy alternative-leaning sonics as she lays out some of her most intimate thoughts. From deconstructing a partner’s internalised homophobia on ‘Don’t Tell My Boyfriend’, to detailing power abuse in the music industry on ‘She’s Finally Lost It!’, and wrestling with betrayal on ‘Inside Out’, she details her most personal experiences in the hope of being a voice for those who feel unheard. Imbued with emotional literacy, each lyric is intentionally penned and searingly honest.

As the latest offering to be lifted from Beth’s debut project, ‘She’s Finally Lost It’ continues to build momentum for her new era. With more new music and exciting ventures to be revealed over the coming months, Beth McKenzie is firmly establishing herself as a bright new addition to today’s pop scene.
