Where the heart is: lullaboy finds his way on his highly anticipated second album ‘coming home’
The album stands as a sincere portrait of self-discovery and becoming, and marks his first full-length project released under RedRecords.
Indonesian-Singaporean singer-songwriter and regional Pop juggernaut lullaboy proudly proffers his latest album: ‘coming home’. Released under label RedRecords, ‘coming home’ is lullaboy’s second full-length project and a testament to his shooting star-akin ascent.
lullaboy, born Bernard Dinata, shares his thoughts on the album:
“This album is a testament to finding home – not just in physical spaces, but in the hearts of others and within ourselves. It’s a musical roadmap of my experiences and growth over the past two years.”
Building upon the foundation and resounding success of his previous releases – which have garnered over 100 million combined streams and earned him the honor of being one of Spotify’s top Singaporean artists (English) for two consecutive years (2022-2023) – ‘coming home’ places lullaboy’s growth as a songwriter and musician on full display, while retaining the intimate storytelling and emotional depth that fans have grown to love.
The nine-track collection, including three new songs, demonstrates lullaboy’s expanded sonic palette and lyrical maturity. From the vulnerable introspection of the title track (which features Swedish indie pop singer-songwriter and YouTube phenom yaeow) to the cultural embrace of his first full Indonesian song ‘kembali’, the album navigates the complex terrain of identity, love, and self-discovery with grace and authenticity.
The album represents a significant artistic leap for lullaboy.
“Working with a label and collaborating with global talent has expanded my creative horizons,” the artist explains. “This album retains my core as a storyteller but pushes my boundaries both sonically and lyrically.”
At its heart, ‘coming home’ is an exploration of what it means to belong in a world of constant movement. Each track serves as a waypoint on a map of the soul, guiding listeners through the complex emotions of longing, love, and self-realization. From the wistful notes of ‘pictures from afar’ to the introspective depths of ‘coming home’, the album invites audiences on a journey of rediscovery – of roots, relationships, and ultimately, oneself.
With his unique blend of emotional pop, R&B influences, and heartfelt lyricism, lullaboy still continues to break boundaries – of both the corporeal and industry kind – and connect with music listeners on a global level. ‘coming home’ is set to further cement his status as Asia’s next breakout star, offering a musical embrace to anyone who has ever questioned, searched for, or yearned for their own place in the world.
Summing up his journey of coming to and crafting what has resulted in this highly anticipated second album, lullaboy reminisces on his own personal journey of where his music would take him – away from home, to newer (and what would be greener) pastures, across the world:
“Two years ago, I released ‘shortcut to heaven’, and since then, I’ve taken [my listeners] on a journey around the world. Every few months, I would release a new song, hoping to provide a soundtrack for the different phases of your life. Desiring to connect with fans, I traveled across Southeast Asia — Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia — performing and getting to know the people who support my music. These songs came to life during those travels.
Now, I’m compiling those six songs into one album, along with three new tracks that I’ve poured my heart into over the last few months. As with all my music, I hope these nine songs help listeners find answers to love and life, just as they’ve done for me.”
‘coming home’ is available to listen on all digital streaming platforms on 26 July 2024.
