Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), operated by Aboitiz InfraCapital GMCAC (AGMCAC), proudly announces the launch of the modern jeepney service connecting Lapu-Lapu City Public Market to MCIA. This new route is a significant step forward in ensuring safe, reliable, and seamless travel for passengers and employees commuting to the airport.
The ceremonial launch was held on December 16, 2024, at MCIA’s pre-terminal area, marking the beginning of operations for the modern jeepneys, which promise to redefine the commuter experience. Equipped with advanced features like CCTV and GPS tracking, these vehicles are designed to provide passengers with a secure, efficient, and comfortable journey.
Enhancing the Airport Passenger Journey With a 24-seat capacity and Euro 5-compliant engines to reduce carbon emissions, the modern jeepneys embody ACAC’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. They ensure passengers traveling to and from MCIA experience smooth and affordable transport, complementing the world-class facilities and services offered at the airport. For just PHP 15 for the first three kilometers, passengers can enjoy safe and modern transportation tailored to meet their needs.
Athanasios Titonis, Chief Executive Officer of Aboitiz InfraCapital GMCAC, emphasized how this initiative aligns with ACAC’s mission to enhance the passenger experience.
“Our goal at MCIA is to provide an exceptional journey, not just from the moment passengers enter the airport, but starting from their commute. The launch of this modern jeepney route ensures that passengers experience comfort, reliability, and efficiency even before they reach our terminals. By improving connectivity to MCIA, we’re delivering on our promise to make travel convenient and accessible for all,” said Titonis.
A Collaborative Effort for Better Connectivity The introduction of this route was made possible through the collaboration between AGMCAC, UBE Express, and local stakeholders. This partnership underscores the importance of integrating sustainable and modern transport solutions into Cebu’s growing infrastructure.
The jeepney service will operate from the Lapu-Lapu City Public Market to MCIA’s Terminal 1 (Domestic) and Terminal 2 (International), offering convenience to airport passengers, employees, and the local community along the route.
Driving Sustainable Growth This initiative reflects AGMCAC’s broader vision to establish MCIA as a globally competitive gateway, connecting people to the world while promoting sustainable practices. By investing in eco-friendly and passenger-centric transport options, MCIA is taking strides to enhance Cebu’s reputation as a hub for tourism, business, and cultural exchange.
For passengers, this development marks the beginning of a more seamless and enjoyable journey to and from MCIA—where every detail, from the commute to check-in, contributes to a world-class travel experience.
