Nangingilo ka ba? Tooth sensitivity, or pangingilo, can make daily activities, like eating and drinking, uncomfortable. That tingling sensation brought about by pangingilo can be triggered when consuming something cold, hot, or sugary. While most people would immediately react by avoiding these foods and drinks, it’s just a temporary solution. It’s crucial to address the real cause of ngilo.

8 out of 10 Filipinos suffer from pangingilo, but many don’t take action as the sensation comes and goes. Some don’t even know that they have tooth sensitivity, while others would choose to endure the pain.

“Kapag masakit ang ngipin, hindi ka na makatrabaho nang maayos. Mawawala ako sa wisyo. Wala na ‘kong paki sa mundo. Nakaka-distract talaga,” said Jess, Inner Sense: In Home interview.

“But ignoring that feeling na parang kinukuryentesa ngipin” can lead to expensive and serious dental problems. Addressing pangingilo as soon as possible is crucial for better oral health.

What is tooth sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity, or pangingilo, occurs when the tooth’s outer protective layer—the enamel—wears down or numinipis over time.

Among the causes ng pagnipis ng protective layer ng ngipin ay ang madiin na pagsipilyo gamit ang hard-bristled o matigas na toothbrush. Another reason for developing pangingilo ay ang pag-consume ng maraming acidic or matamis na pagkain at inumin, tulad ng softdrinks at candy or chocolate.

Why should tooth sensitivity be addressed ASAP?

If someone experiences tooth sensitivity and ignores it, mas lalala ang problema. Every time they eat or drink something na mainit, malamig, matamis, or acidic, patuloy lang mararamdaman ang pangingilo, dahil hindi nasusulusyunan ng tama ang sanhi nito. . If this isn’t addressed asap, mas lalaki pa ang problema at gastos ng pagpapagamot.

Can regular toothpaste address sensitivity?

Hindi lahat ng toothpaste ay formulated to protect against pangingilo. Importante na hanapin ang toothpaste na formulated with potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride, like Sensodyne. Itong mga ingredients na ito ay makakatulong para ma-soothe ang ngipin from pangingilo and prevent cavities.

It’s also important to continue using Sensodyne twice daily, kahit wala na ang pangingilo. This is because Sensodyne acts as a barrier between the teeth and hot, cold, sugary, and acidic food and drinks, effectively keeping pangingilo from coming back.

Educating Filipinos about pangingilo

To help more Filipinos address their pangingilo, Sensodyne began the first leg of its “Sensitive Ka? Mag-Sensodyne Na! Caravan” at the SM Mall of Asia on January 28, 2024, during the Philippine Dental Association’s (PDA) 20th National Dental Health Month celebration. Participants had their teeth checked at Sensodyne’s Free Dental Checkup and Tooth Sensitivity Awareness booths, where they also joined fun games and won prizes.

The “Sensitive Ka? Mag-Sensodyne Na! Caravan,” in partnership with PDA, will run until April 2024 and visit various locations across the Philippines upang magpalaganap ng impormasyon on how to take better care of one’s teeth, lalo na kapag may pangingilo, magbigay ng free dental checkup at free samples.

The Caravan will soon make its way to Pasay, Caloocan, Baguio City, Dagupan City, Tuguegarao City, Cabanatuan City, Batangas City, Legaspi City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, Cagayan de Oro City, Davao City.

“Our purpose is to really deliver everyday health for humanity, and our consumers and shoppers are people that we serve. We want to make sure that we deliver healthy, longer, and happier lives for Filipino families,” said Jeffrey Go, General Manager, Haleon Philippines, Inc.

Sensodyne offers protective dental support, guarding teeth against pangingilo and cavities, while also freshening breath and strengthening teeth with its advanced cleaning properties. “Kaya naman kapag nangingilo ka, i-Sensodyne mo,” said Tracee Maristela, Oral Health Care Lead, Haleon Philippines, Inc.

Sensodyne is available at leading supermarkets and drugstores nationwide. Ngayon, mas abot-kaya na ang Sensodyne Fresh Mint at Sensodyne Deep Clean at Php 99 SRP. Sensodyne can also be purchased on Lazada and Shopee.
