As the clock strikes midnight, fans of the alt-pop sibling duo No Lore, consisting of Tita Halaman and Jerald Juatco, eagerly embark on a new sonic journey with the release of their latest single, “Malilimutin.” Produced in collaboration with Ean Aguila of Ang Bandang Shirley, this single marks a pivotal moment in the duo’s evolving musical narrative.
In a recent interview, No Lore shared insights into their creative process, emphasizing a deeper exploration of synthesizers and samples, a shift towards more Tagalog songs, and a fresh perspective gained from industry interactions. “Our time in the studio with Ean Aguila was a transformative experience, opening new avenues for our sound,” Tita Halaman explained.
Jerald added, “Our love for synth-pop and film score music heavily influenced the creation of ‘Malilimutin’. We’ve woven these elements into our music, aiming to strike a balance between emotional depth and our unique style.”
Described as a ‘mad sad song,’ “Malilimutin” combines emotional lyrics, strong beats, and airy vocal synths, setting it apart in the duo’s discography. The song delves into the fear of being forgotten, a theme that resonates deeply with its creators. “The opening lines of the song encapsulate the essence of the emotion we want to convey,” shared Jerald.
Jerald Juatco and Tita Halaman, the talented siblings behind No Lore, seamlessly blend artistic prowess, with Jerald’s expertise as a multimedia designer and Tita Halaman’s flair as a visual artist in the Philippines, crafting key visuals for each single they produce. Their creations transcend music, offering a harmonious fusion of art and melody.
Tita’s favorite line from the song, “Malilimutin malilimot mo na din ba sila? Mga kaibigan kong naging kaibigan mo na?” reflects on the complexities of relationships and the interconnectedness of social bonds and the natural fear of being forgotten.
On challenges and rewards, Jerald reflected, “Blending our unique sound with the deep emotional theme was a challenge, but the outcome has been incredibly rewarding.”
Looking ahead, No Lore revealed plans for more singles in 2024, including collaborations and an enhanced live performance experience. Their next song will be out soon, hinting at an album release this year. The collaboration between No Lore’s label, Off The Record, led by Ricky Ilacad, and Sony Music Entertainment Philippines marks a noteworthy milestone in the duo’s career, pointing towards a year of exciting developments and unforgettable musical experiences.
