On August 3, 2024, Skechers Philippines wrote the next chapter of Filipino basketball with the unveiling of the Skechers Tenement Court Mural! One of the world’s most iconic basketball courts at the famous Fort Bonifacio Tenement, the unveiling of the court commemorates the arrival of NBA basketball players Julius Randle of the New York Knicks and Terance Mann of the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the brand’s 2024 tour through the Philippines. On this same day, Skechers also donated 100 pairs of SKX Basketball shoes to the local community of Tenement in Taguig City.

Transformed to feature both Terance Mann and Julius Randle donning Skechers Basketball shoes and apparel, the mural represents the future of Filipino basketball featuring a vibrant color palette that matches the undying passion of basketball fans and players in the Philippines. The mural also integrates motifs inspired by Philippine iconography and national pride with a Philippine Eagle wing emerging from Terance’s basketball, and a weave pattern akin to the textiles present in Indigenous Filipino culture overlaid on Julius’ ball. The design is draped in the colors of the Philippine flag which further drives home the welcoming spirit of Filipinos.

Behind this mural are the Tenement Visual Artists, a dynamic collective renowned for their community-centric murals that go viral around the world, with an art style that fuses urban aesthetics with basketball cultural emblems. Their latest endeavor shows their commitment to capturing the spirit of athleticism and local pride.

This unveiling was a huge opportunity to showcase the Philippines’ passion for the game. It put the deep-rooted enthusiasm of Filipino fans for the sport on full display. Basketball isn’t just a sport in the Philippines, it’s a national pastime, a way to bond with your friends, and an avenue to unleash their competitive spirit. This mural validates and recognizes that unmatched love the country has for the game, while bringing home a world-class basketball experience. The unveiling ceremony on August 3rd was hosted by Mikee Reyes and Skechers Philippines team members including Country Manager Suzette Pasustento and Skechers U.S.A. COO David Weinberg.

Skechers believes that basketball creates community and involving Filipino basketball fans in this tenement mural project was the perfect opportunity to bring passionate fans of the sport together. To further show their support and commitment to the sport, Skechers donated 100 pairs of Skechers Basketball shoes to the Tenement community so they too can experience the brand’s Comfort That Performs.

By giving the community the chance to meet the heroes of their favorite sport, providing artists an avenue to express their passion in their own exceptional way, and boosting the morale of their Filipino customers, the unveiling of the Tenement Court mural signals more exciting things to come with Skechers Basketball. These special events create a unique opportunity to capture cultural celebration where art meets athleticism offering readers a heartfelt look into Filipino basketball and their love of the game.
