A staggering number of individuals today live paycheck to paycheck, and countless others are drowning in debt. This sad reality prompted SmarTrade, one of the leading financial education and consultancy firms in the Philippines, to roll out its Money Management Workshop for young learners, aiming to instill crucial financial skills in students from an early age to help them avoid the same fate.
This initiative is inspired by the journey of Marc Lacson, a young trader whose early introduction to financial independence is proof to the transformative power of financial education. SmarTrade’s workshops teach the same practical strategies Marc used to understand and succeed in the financial markets, helping him build a secure future.
Marc’s Story: From Classrooms to Trading Rooms
Marc began his trading adventure in high school, using his daily allowances to make meaningful investments. He gave up leisure activities and under the guidance of his family, devoted his time to learning about the markets, creating a foundation that shielded him from the financial instability faced by many of his peers.
“Starting my investment journey early taught me the importance of managing money wisely, rather than just trying to make more of it,” shares Marc.
As he progressed through college, Marc continued to balance his academics with active trading.
The onset of the pandemic prompted him to diversify his portfolio by venturing into Forex trading, alongside his long-term stock investments. Despite occasional significant losses, Marc’s resolve remained steadfast.
“Each challenge was a lesson, shaping my approach to both trading and life,” says Marc. “Trading is about making calculated, future-focused decisions that benefit not just me but also those around me. One needs to embrace consistency and commitment. Each part of your journey will refine your skills and personal growth. Trading is not just about the execution of transactions. It’s really about evolving both personally and financially.”
Marc has come a long way. From training with SmarTrade on how to do online trading, the 24-year-old is paying it forward as a junior analyst at SmarTrade. He is part of the team that conducts year-round learning sessions that SmarTrade offers for free.
Empowering Future Traders
“Marc’s journey is a powerful testament to our mission. We are dedicated to arming young students with the financial knowledge that can set them on a path to success similar to Marc’s,” says Joyce Ann Mayo, President and CEO of SmarTrade.
SmarTrade’s Money Management Workshop for young learners is 100% free and open to students and young enthusiasts.
