Avoid ‘bill shock’ this summer with CIMB

Summer has not yet officially set in, but we can already feel temperatures soaring! Oftentimes, our electricity and water bills go up, too. Keeping cool and staying hydrated are non-negotiable, but they don’t have to come with sky-high costs.

CIMB Bank Philippines, recently hailed as the Best Digital Bank in the country by The Asian Banker, shares tips on a few smart adjustments you can do so you can enjoy your ‘hirit sa tag-init’ without breaking the bank.

Cool smarter, not harder

To make your room feel chillier without raising the aircon thermostat, consider using fans simultaneously. They use far less electricity and can make a room feel 4-6°F cooler.

You can also try blocking out the sun. Sunlight streaming through windows can raise indoor temperatures significantly. Keep blinds, blackout curtains, or reflective window films in place during peak hours to prevent heat buildup.

Check for gaps around windows and doors where cool air might be escaping. Proper insulation helps maintain a stable indoor temperature, reducing the need for excessive cooling.

Observe energy-efficient habits

Small daily changes can result in substantial energy savings. For example, using the washing machine and dryers at night when temperatures (and energy demand) are lower; making it a habit to unplug TVs, gaming consoles, and chargers; and opting for LED bulbs that generate less heat and use up to 80% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, can all make a huge difference.

Preferring the microwave or an air fryer to prepare meals also helps, as opposed to slow cookers and the oven.

Be water wise

It’s easy to stay longer in the shower during these hot months, but go guilt-free by installing a low-flow showerhead that can cut water use by 30-50%.

If you have a lawn or plants to water, do so early in the morning or late in the evening to minimize evaporation.

May tulo? Make sure to fix leaky faucets or broken toilets as soon as possible.

With a combination of efficient cooling habits, energy-conscious choices, and smart water usage, you can enjoy the sizzling season without financial stress. And to conserve your own energy, download the CIMB Bank PH app on the App Store, AppGallery, or on Google Play. With its Pay Bills feature, you can settle your water and electric bills with just a few taps of a finger. You can pay your other dues, too!
