GMA Integrated News continues to shed light on pressing national concerns with the second installment of “Biyaheng Totoo: Sana sa Eleksyon 2025,” airing this Saturday, May 3, at 9:30 p.m. on GMA, hosted by veteran award-winning broadcast journalist, Vicky Morales.
This week, the two-part series confronts the urgent issues of job availability, OFWs and workers’ rights, and food security and price control. Veteran broadcast journalists Raffy Tima and Ivan Mayrina lead the exploration of these critical concerns, shedding light on the realities faced by Filipinos nationwide.
Tima, in the segment “Sana sa Eleksyon 2025: Magandang Trabaho at Kabuhayan,” delves into the plight of Filipinos who risk everything for better opportunities abroad. He shares the stories of those who have faced danger and hardship in their pursuit of a brighter future for their families.
This segment explains the alarming statistics from the Philippine Statistics Authority, which reported nearly two million unemployed Filipinos as of February. The Social Weather Stations survey further underscores the public’s demand, revealing that creating more job opportunities is the top hope among voters for the 2025 elections.
Meanwhile, Mayrina, in “Sana sa Eleksyon 2025: Sapat at Abot-Kayang Pagkain sa Hapag-Kainan,” travels to Tarlac and Pangasinan, to expose the harsh realities faced by Filipino farmers and fisherfolk. Despite being the backbone of the country’s food supply, one in every four farmers and fisherfolk lives in poverty.
The documentary reveals the alarming statistic that between 2021 and 2023, the Philippines recorded the highest number of food-insecure individuals in Southeast Asia—over 51 million Filipinos.
Mayrina also shares the story of Jonathan, a rice farmer who has been waiting over six weeks for the National Food Authority to purchase his harvest, illustrating how delayed government support is, forcing many to sell at a loss. Mayrina also highlights the struggles of small-time vendors like Dominic and Maricel, who live day-to-day collecting and selling junk, barely surviving on their meager earnings.
With the 2025 Midterm Elections approaching, “Biyaheng Totoo: Sana sa Eleksyon 2025” captures the growing desperation and the fervent hope of Filipinos for genuine change.
Last Saturday (April 26), veteran broadcast journalists Sandra Aguinaldo and Joseph Morong kicked off the special documentary with an in-depth exploration of hunger, health, and poverty, and the state of education in the Philippines. Based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement overnight ratings data for April 26, the first part of the series posted a people rating of 5.5 percent in Urban Philippines.
