Global Food Partners (GFP) has partnered with Cebuano farmer Ilaya Cage-Free Egg Supply, led by Joey Bacalla, the first farmer in the Philippines to join GFP’s Impact Incentives program. Through Impact Incentives the two companies will work together to expand the farm’s production from 1,000 to 6,000 laying hens and help food and hospitality businesses meet their cage-free commitments.
At a signing ceremony on 24 February, stakeholders from the egg industry gathered to celebrate this partnership. The collaboration offers two solutions for food businesses in Visayas and beyond that are working to meet their cage-free commitments by December 2025:
- Direct Cage-free Sourcing: Companies can purchase physical cage-free eggs directly from Ilaya Cage-Free Egg Supply.
- Impact Incentives Programme: Businesses can also fulfil their commitments by purchasing Impact Incentives—cage-free credits that directly support this farmer’s cage-free expansion and production.
About Impact Incentives
GFP’s Impact Incentives program, the world’s first egg credit trading scheme, provides a flexible, cost-effective solution to sourcing challenges while driving meaningful industry change. By purchasing these credits, food companies can bridge supply gaps and stay on track to meet their December 2025 cage-free commitment deadlines.
For producers like Ilaya Cage-Free Egg Supply, Impact Incentives provides a premium revenue stream that helps fund their cage-free expansion, covers operational costs, and enables further expansion to meet growing demand. This innovative model empowers both businesses and farmers to advance their sustainability and cage-free goals together.
Market Linkage and Certification Support
Through this partnership, GFP will play a pivotal role in connecting Ilaya Cage-Free Egg Supply with food and hospitality businesses across the Philippines striving to meet their cage-free commitments. By facilitating key market linkages, GFP will ensure that the farm’s expanded production is directly accessible to companies in need of reliable, high-quality cage-free eggs.
Additionally, GFP is supporting Ilaya in working toward Certified Humane certification, a key step in ensuring the farm meets international welfare standards. This certification will further enhance Ilaya’s credibility in the marketplace, demonstrating their commitment to high animal welfare practices and meeting the growing demand for responsibly sourced eggs.
