Not Your Kontrabida Girl: How Karina Bautista Adds Depth to Ara in Puregold Channel’s Si Sol at si Luna

You know that moment when someone gives you the look—not loud, not dramatic, but sharp enough to slice through the silence? That was Ara (Karina Bautista) in Episode 8 of Si Sol at si Luna. When she finally met Luna (Jane Oineza), the words were civil but the glance was anything but. Even Luna felt the shift: “What’s her issue?” she asks Sol later. Honestly? It’s complicated.

In the world of teleseryes, Ara would be your cookie-cutter kontrabida—the “other girl,” the vengeful ex, the drama starter. But in Si Sol at si Luna, Ara is written with nuance. She exudes neither malice nor rancor. She’s just real.

Ara is the character you don’t expect to relate to, but end up seeing yourself in. She’s a daughter trying to live up to impossible expectations. A student chasing Summa Cum Laude to please her family. A girl who fell—maybe too hard—for a guy who made her feel safe.

“She’s extra, but she’s also brave,” Karina says of Ara. “She’s not afraid to show how she feels. She’s conflicted. She wants love—but she also wants her parents’ approval.”

Ara’s scenes show us that heartbreak doesn’t always come with tears and anguish. Sometimes, it comes in the form of stillness, a deep void, and a stare that says: I remember everything.

And just when we thought Sol and Luna’s love story was finally taking shape, with kilig rooftop trysts, gentle bleacher massages, and that elevator kiss, Ara walks in and reminds us: there’s always more to the story.

Fans are now properly roused for Episode 9, ‘Missing Person: Luna’, premiering on Saturday, July 26, at the official Puregold YouTube Channel.

Viewers are ecstatic. Will the kiss lead to something more for Sol and Luna?

And now that Ara has seen the enchanting and beautiful Luna of Sol’s stories, what will she do? Will she hang on, like she always does?
