Multi-awarded Kapuso broadcast journalist and documentarist Kara David further cements her legacy of journalistic integrity, receiving the prestigious Star Icon for Investigative Journalism and Media Excellence at the Global Filipino Icon Awards 2025 held on April 5 in Dubai, UAE.
The award recognizes David’s exceptional contributions to the media industry, highlighting her unwavering commitment to truth, impactful reporting, and powerful documentary work.
In her speech during the awarding ceremony, David expressed profound admiration for the hard work and dedication of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), whom she considers the true icons of the nation.
“I feel so humbled to receive such an award. Ang salitang ‘icon’ ay karaniwang binibigay sa mga taong may mataas na naabot sa buhay o may nagawang kahanga-hanga. Pero sa totoo lang, looking at all of you today, and after knowing all your stories of hardship, challenges, and perseverance, kayo, mga Global Pinoys, ang tunay na kahanga-hanga.”
She also pledged to continue her work, striving to inspire and serve her fellow Filipinos, “Alam ko na may obligasyon ako sa pamilya, higit sa lahat sa aking bayan. Kaya tulad ninyo, patuloy akong lalaban. Sana kayo rin.”
David currently hosts GMA Network‘s flagship and acclaimed documentary program “I-Witness,” alongside Howie Severino, Atom Araullo, Mav Gonzales, and John Consulta. She also hosts GMA Public Affairs‘ popular infotainment show, “Pinas Sarap.”
In March, David and her fellow “I-Witness” hosts were awarded Best Documentary Program Hosts at the 38th PMPC Star Awards for Television. In the same month, she was honored with the Media Excellence in Public Affairs Hosting Award (Female) for “I-Witness” at the Laurus Nobilis Media Excellence Awards.
The Global Filipino Icon Awards recognizes outstanding personalities who have made significant contributions to their respective fields, both in the Philippines and abroad. The event is organized by “The Global Filipino Magazine,” a prominent publication based in Dubai and is known as the fastest growing Filipino magazine in the Middle East.
