Love on the Clock Heats Up in Hong Kong with a Mid-season Twist

The “Love on the Clock” cast reunited for a watch party at the TV5 Media Center last November 15. It was part catch-up and part guessing game as everyone tried to figure out which pair the viewers were rooting for.

Now halfway through its run, Love on the Clock is proving that the race for romance can just be as dynamic and exhilarating as Hong Kong itself. Shot entirely on locations in Hong Kong, the eight-episode series takes dating reality TV out of the usual studio setup and throws it into a city that’s alive with contrasts. The city’s mix of energy, food, and spots shape the experiences of eight singles who race against time to find love. The show begins with an unusual twist: AI-generated compatibility matches. Some pairs clicked instantly, while others were proving the algorithm wrong. On top of romance, daters earn “love points” through challenges which affect decisions and strategy to what would otherwise be a straightforward date.

Every episode pushes the cast into a new part of the city and into situations that test both their compatibility and their limits – from high-stakes “Love Locks” challenges at The Peak to playful roller-skating duels at Bun’s 2020 where sparks fly both on and off the rink. Their competitive side comes out at JOYPOLIS SPORTS HONG KONG, where physical challenges reveal who works well together and who only looks compatible on paper.

Hosts Juancho Triviño and Dawn Chang also shared how the city shaped their experiences. For Juancho, Hong Kong has always been familiar, having visited many times with this family. But filming there opened up new corners of the city he had never seen. One spot in particular left an impression on him. “I’d recommend GO PARK Aqua. It is even more impressive in person,” he said.

For Dawn, the city feels almost like home. She spent a year performing at Hong Kong Disneyland before, so returning for Love on the Clock was nostalgic. She noticed that the city’s charm often appears in its simplest, rather unassuming corners. “The small food stalls – sometimes that’s where the best flavors are. You would understand why people line up once you take the first bite.” she added.

The show’s director, Johann Alcantara, explained that shooting in a cinematic and vibrant location helped elevate the series. Those moments, he shared, added both excitement and pressure especially when the cameras kept rolling and real emotions started showing. “From racing to unlock codes at the scenic Victoria Peak viewing deck to navigating the colorful buzz of the Central Market, the city really plays the ultimate matchmaker,” he added.

The biggest surprise of the season happens in Episode 4 with the arrival of JC Alcantara, a rising actor best known for his roles in Hello Stranger: The Movie, and Alexa San Agustin, a film & TV actress, a film & TV actress.Their entrance stirred rivalries and a few awkward moments among the original daters. JC teased the crowd saying, “Hong Kong is even more beautiful when you have a date.” He didn’t specify who but the reactions in the room said enough.

As the series moves toward its finale, will someone actually find love on the clock? Upcoming episodes will also spotlight more of Hong Kong’s romantic dating spots, along with the blossoming connections between the daters.

Catch Love on the Clock every Saturday at 9:15 P.M. on TV5 and every Friday at 4 P.M. on tvN Asia. The show is also available on TV5’s official Youtube channel.
