Two decades after a single live recording transformed the landscape of OPM, Asia’s Diamond Soul Siren is preparing to take center stage once again. Nina (born Marifil Niña Girado-Enriquez) is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her landmark, Diamond-certified album, Nina Live!, with a special concert titled “Nina XX” on May 9, 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Newport World Resorts.
Released in February 2005, Nina Live! remains one of the most significant milestones in Philippine music history. The album was certified Diamond by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) and stands as one of the highest-selling live albums in the country.
A Legacy of Live Performance
Reflecting on the album’s sudden impact during a recent media conference, Nina recalled the overwhelming public reception to her renditions of classic hits.
“Every song that came out from the Nina Live! album was so well-received by the people,” Nina shared. “Even though they knew the songs, my versions felt like new songs to them. I was so happy every time a new track from that album was released“.
For Nina, the success of the 2005 release was a revelation for her fans, proving that her true strength lies in raw, unfiltered performances. “When the album came out, people realized I love singing live more than just recording in a studio,” she explained. “Before that album, I was already singing live—it’s what I love to do“.
Keeping the “Hugot” Alive
Despite performing staples like “Love Moves in Mysterious Ways” for twenty years, the Soul Siren insists she never tires of the setlist. When asked how she maintains the emotional depth of these tracks, her answer was simple: “Always hugot lang talaga”.
“I always feel the song as if it’s my first time to sing it,” she said. “Some might get tired of hearing or singing those songs, but for me, I’m sharing it as if it’s the very first time“.
A Star-Studded Celebration
Fans attending the May 9 show can expect the classic Nina Live! hits but “with a different twist”. Joining her for this milestone event are fellow R&B royalties Jay Durias, Thor, and Kris Lawrence. The production is directed by Calvin Neria, with Soc Mina as musical director.
Ticketing Update: Fans looking to secure a seat should act immediately. As of today, tickets for the “Nina XX” concert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater are nearly sold out, reflecting the enduring legacy of the Diamond Soul Siren.
