Taiwan Night market food is on the global stage. This year, Michelin is listing quite some gourmet from local Night Market that are ready to have visitors salivating.
This year “Michelin Guide Taipei 2019” unveils 24 eateries and 34 restaurants or a total of 58 spots where you can have three quality courses for a meal without spending more than TWD 1,000.
This year’s new Bib Gourmand list, three Taipei night markets made their debut: GongGuan Night Market, YanSan Night Market and HuaXi St. Night Market. While other night markets like the NanJiChang Night Market, RaoHe Night Market, NingXia Night Market, ShiLin Night Market and LinJiang St. Night Market, joins the list with new iconic dishes as well. Hsiung Chi Scallion Pancake serves their pancakes crisp on the outside yet soft inside with special-made sauce. Lan Chia Guabao offers braised pork topped with a spoonful of peanut powder, cilantro, and pickled mustard green in a soft steamed bun.
The YanSan Night Market where three eateries are honored this year:
DaQiaoTou MRT, the no sign board Taiwanese dish of cabbage rice & pork rib soup is a simple plain bowl of cabbage fried rice and radish pork rib soup. While DaQiaoTou Tube Rice Pudding, established 50 years ago, offers irresistible glutinous rice cake flavored with fat and lean pork with a homemade sauce. Finally, the Shih Chia Big Rice Ball has a delicious savory tangyuan since 1964. The iconic chewy sticky rice ball filled with juicy minced pork has the restaurant’s name wide spread until today.
The newly emerged ones are XiaoWang Steamed Minced Pork with Pickles in HuaXi St. You can also find at the night market Black Pepper enhanced soup and its signature HeiJin Ru Rou Fan which is a dark braised pork rice. In NanJiChang Night Market, their specialty is the Sung Ching Taiwanese Burrito or Popiah roll with 10 different fillings.
And at Raohe Night Market, the new stalls are A-Kuo Noodles serving Braised Beef Noodle & Beef Offal soup, and noodle with soya sauce and assorted platter (HeiBai Qie).
Meanwhile, other new selected night market eateries made it to the Bib Gourmand are NingXia Night Market’s FangJia Chicken Rice which is topped with tender braised tofu and crispy bottom; Chung Chia Sheng Jian Bao in ShiLin Night Market and Sesame Paste from Good Friend Cold Noodle. As for LinJiang Night Market, the Tien Hsiang Stinky Tofu and the hot n’ cold “Yu Pin Yuan Iced and Hot Tangyuan” are the new comers.
