Spotify is celebrating National Pet Day with its cutest playlist covers yet! The global audio streaming platform is spotlighting five artists shaping OPM on the covers of featured playlists alongside their pets, reflecting the bond shared between both animal and musical lovers – and those who inspire them.
The Pinoy artists and their beloved pets grace the covers of five featured OPM playlists, a point of national pride for Pinoys where artists have gained momentum across local and global stages. On Spotify, OPM accounted for billions in all-time streams within the previous year.
Ben&Ben for Tatak Pinoy
Members of one of the most prominent OPM artists feature on this playlist with the hottest tracks shaping local music today, including Ligaya by mrld and Bibitaw, aasa by Arthur Miguel.
Pat and Agnes share that the power of music extends to their pets: “Archie’s [the corgi] an anxious dog but we discovered last year that he loves chill and classical music so we made him a Spotify playlist and plays it whenever he feels anxious during car rides or bath time. Maxene [the pug] naman loves to cuddle with us whenever me or Pat practices piano or bass.” Ben&Ben member Andrew adds, “I love how naturally empathic pets are. It’s as if they always know how you’re feeling, and they adjust to how you are, and that makes them the best companions for everyday life.”
Zack Tabudlo for Hot Hits Philippines
OPM boy wonder Zack Tabudlo has been turning out hit after hit, and is a perfect fit for this playlist of LSS-inducing pop hits from local and global artists. The playlist includes Diwata by Sam Concepcion – which has reached more than 8 million streams on Spotify, Tabudlo’s very own Asan Ka Na Ba, and consistent Spotify chart-topper Ikaw Lang by NOBITA. Tabudlo’s family has two bulldogs, Masen and Cosmo, who bring the family joy, according to Zack. “Especially when Cosmo was a puppy, he would be in my studio when I’m producing,” Tabudlo says of how much his pet loves music too. To his pets, the Spotify RADAR artist dedicates Habang Buhay. “Because I hope they stay with me for as long as they could,” he explains.
Clara Benin for OPM Rising
Heartbeat On Me by Kiana V and Jesse Barrera, Threads by Tandems ‘91 and Reese Lansangan, and Sumama Ka by Vaughn, Kylu, and Louis Angelo form part of a playlist of the freshest tracks in OPM. The fast-rising Clara Benin belongs to OPM’s new blood, and has amassed Spotify streams in the tens of millions. The indie singer-songwriter’s passion for music might just be equaled by her love of Novo, her English Cocker Spaniel-Poodle, for whom she dedicated John Mayer’s You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me. “I feel like Novo is half-human. Whenever I talk to him, he really makes eye contact as if he understands what I’m saying,” Benin quips.
Alisson Shore for Kalye Hip-hop
From the streets to Spotify, Kalye Hip-Hop has enjoyed a resurgence in both streams and popularity, retaining its potent mix of grit and charm. One of the genre’s main men Alisson Shore is joined by his pet Kira as they front the playlist cover for Kalye Hip-Hop. The playlist paints the ever-colorful picture of Pinoy hip-hop with beats by Lo Ki, Ex Battalion, and Flow G.
Jugs Jugueta of The Itchyworms for Pinoy Rakrakan!
Jam with the greats and the rising stars of OPM rock in Pinoy Rakrakan! With songs that range from sentimental to all-out rock and roll, like Anghel by The Juans, Nais Lang Kitang Saktan / Tama Na Yan by Mayonnaise and Raymund Marasigan, and rock classic Ang Huling El Bimbo by rock legends Eraserheads, there’s a song for a broad spectrum of emotions. For The Itchyworms frontman Jugs Jugueta, rock songs could even convey exactly how he feels about his pets. For his three dogs and several turtles and tortoises, he dedicates his band’s song Gusto Ko Lamang sa Buhay. “I love hugging our dogs! For the tortoises, they love back rubs and head scratches,” he enthuses.
