Singer-songwriter Glaiza De Castro and Filipino rapper Max Importunate team up for a fresh track, ‘Tawid Dagat,’ released on Friday, June 24.
Tawid Dagat features a mixture of hip-hop, alternative pop, and synth wave. The track unfolds a story of not giving up on love — notwithstanding challenges embedded in the undulating journey that comes with long-distance relationships.
The track was written by Glaiza De Castro, in which the narrative was inspired by her long-distance relationship with partner, David Rainey, during the pandemic. The development of the record served as Glaiza’s way of telling herself not to give up on the relationship despite the challenges anchored in the situation.
Max Importunate shares that he could relate to the track’s narrative — making him elated to contribute to the song and craft a verse.
“Hindi ako sure kung lalagyan ko ba siya ng second stanza so when I submitted the song to OC, I asked kung sino yung bagay kasi na-envision ko rin na may rap parts siya. They suggested Max and when I met him via Zoom, I told him the story behind the song. After a few weeks, may lyrics na siya,” Glaiza explains.
For Max Importunate, Tawid Dagat signifies a reminder for everyone going through the same plight that such obstacles can build a stronger foundation of a relationship.
“Tipong gaano man kalayo ang mapuntahan, isang tao lang ang uuwian,” he shares.
Glaiza De Castro and Max Importunate exemplify a diverse artistic style. The former exhibits a ravishing mixture of rock and glam, while the latter features the vigor of rap music and love songs. The collaboration between the artists for this track showcases their ability to stay true to their roots and simultaneously deliver new sounds and experiences to their listeners — chiefly generated by the prowess of a collaborative work that significantly influenced the evolution of their artistry.
“In terms of producing music, the artistic direction definitely changed since Bank Holiday palang. Like the way I start creating and mapping songs. Before, laging sa gitara nag-start yung pag buo ng kanta, ngayon, may mga samples and beats na,” Glaiza shares.
Max adds, “Base sa style ko, may good feed back siya, kasi matagal ko na ring gustong pasukin ang alternative pop, synthwave, na hahaluan ko ng hip-hop genre. Saktong nabigyan pa ako ng momentum with Ms. Glaiza De Castro, so na-take advantage ko siya para ma-showcase ko yung pagiging versatile ko.”
Tawid Dagat offers a novel creative approach from both artists. Glaiza De Castro fires away her rapping savvy, while Max Importunate ventures into a new blend of sonic style.
Published under O/C Records, Tawid Dagat is produced by Glaiza De Castro alongside Kean Cipriano, and mixed and mastered by Hazel Pascua. Other creatives behind its production include Wendell Garcia, Rommel Dela Cruz, and Marc Silva.
Tawid Dagat is now available for streaming on all digital music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
