Although this may seem funny, let’s be honest. Glass is often associated with elegance and class, but in reality, it attracts dirt. Glass attracts grime like crazy.
Your windshield needs to be cleaned often because dirty windshields compromise your ability to see while driving. We go over what tools you’ll need, along with the simple instructions and advice from the Comglasco Aguila Glass auto glass replacement team. With their expertise and experience, they have dealt with a wide range of windshield types.
The estimated time needed to accomplish this is less than a half-hour. For your safety or the safety of your partner or family, Comglasco recommends using protective gear such as safety glasses and nitrile gloves as cleaning solutions might be harmful to the skin, open wounds, or eyes.
Tools Needed
- Clean microfiber towels
- Spray bottle
- Water
- Glass cleaner (must be ammonia-free as it can damage tinted windows)
- New, clean microfiber towels
You will save time by organizing these tools so that everything is reachable and you don’t need to ask someone to get them for you.
Here’s How To Clean A Windshield’s Interior:
Unless you like having a mini-party in your car or a fancy movie date set up, it’s unlikely that it will become so dirty that it needs deep cleaning.
- Spray your glass cleaner directly onto the microfiber towel.
- Wipe the glass vertically halfway through, starting on one side and moving to the other.
- Wipe the glass vertically until halfway through, starting on one side and moving to the other.
- Wipe the same side of the windshield horizontally, using broad, sweeping strokes.
- Use a dry microfiber cloth to clean and dry that side of the window in long, even strokes.
- On the other side, repeat steps 1-4.
- Now go take care of your car’s exterior.
How to clean the outside:
- Spray the windshield with your cleaning solution. Either the left or right side could be sprayed first, at your discretion. Spray the part of the windshield you plan to wipe first in a way that covers the widest possible area. It normally only takes two to three squirts of cleaner. Use four or five squirts of glass cleaner, as necessary, to clean a huge windshield. Glass cleaner should always be diluted with water, at a ratio of 1 ounce of cleaner to 1 gallon of water.
- Wipe the glass vertically until halfway through, beginning on one side and moving to the other.
- Wipe the windshield horizontally on the same side, using broad, sweeping strokes.
- Thoroughly clean the glass using a dry microfiber towel. Start a horizontally oriented wipe-down after finishing a vertically oriented wipe-down. Drag the microfiber towel straight out toward the edge of the windshield you’re standing on, beginning at the upper center of the windshield once more. Then, beginning just below the first row, wipe another, parallel row in the same direction toward the edge. Continue cleaning the windshield in this manner until you’re satisfied.
- Steps 1-4 should be repeated on the other side. Take a clean towel and replace the one you used to remove the glass cleaner. You might require several fresh microfiber towels, depending on how big your windshield is.
Bonus Tips for Cleaning Your Windshield:
- Find a shaded spot to park. Cleaning is best done on cool surfaces.
- Raise the wipers on the windshield. Make sure to clean the space beneath them as well before spraying any glass cleaner. For the duration of cleaning, leave them in the “up” position.
- Never ever clean your windows with tissue paper. Always use a microfiber cloth.
- Make sure to only wash your microfiber cloths with other microfiber cloths (cotton towels will make lint stick to the microfiber), dry them on low, and never, ever use fabric softener or a dryer. Make it a habit to constantly clean with a microfiber cloth after a trip!
- Use your wipers to clear your windshield. This one is pretty common, especially with modern vehicles. It only takes a few touchpoints!
