Only a few can command a hero requiring a high mechanical skill, such as Chou.
And Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera is one prime example of that, as ECHO’s playmaker bagged the Razer Gold-MPL PH Press Corps Player of the Week award for the period of February 2 to March 8.
Yawi, showing his versatility and mechanical skill as a roamer, bagged 5.75 assists, to go with 2 kills and a kill-death-assist rate of 3.10 as Echo remained undefeated in week 3 of MPL Philippines Season 11 action. Echo’s playmaker participated in 56.36 percent of the team’s kills, in a masterful display of setting his teammates up for success this weekend.
Showing why he is considered as one of the best -if not the best – Chou players in the world, both of Yawi’s MVP citations this week came from using his signature hero. The 21 year old had three assists to go with four kills using his comfort pick as Echo locked the sweep against TNC Pro Team when they kick-started their Week 3 campaign last Friday. He also used his comfort mage roam pick in Kadita.
Yawi had 11 assists with Chou as the reigning world champions defeated Nexplay EVOS, 2-0 last Sunday.
Yawi bested teammate Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya and fellow roamer, Bren Esports‘ Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo for the recognition. He now has the 2nd most assists this season with 92, just a dime behind the league’s all-time leader, Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna, who has 93.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Yawi deflected credit in his performance to Echo Manager Mitch Liwanag, who he said has been a formidable part of the Orcas as they grew into a top-caliber team.
“Mine-make sure niya po na hindi kami nalilipasan, and maayos yung environment, kung ano yung bawal sa bootcamp. Kinakamusta after season isa-isa and as a team and pag may problema ang isa samin kinakausap kami.”
Yawi will receive a Razer Blackshark V2 courtesy of Razer Gold.
The weekly citation is decided and deliberated upon by print and online media covering the MPL PH beat, as well as the league’s broadcasters and operations team.
