As climate change continues to be discussed in the local and international communities, the demand for jobs in line with sustainability has been steadily growing. Public and private sectors have also been promoting environmentally conscious decisions and policies by employing professionals in the areas of energy, agriculture, construction and manufacturing, transportation, waste management, policy, research, and consulting.
Responding to the call of the times, Mapúa University, the Philippines’ premier engineering and technological school, is set to offer the country’s first undergraduate program in Energy Engineering this upcoming Academic Year 2023-2024.
Mapúa’s Energy Engineering program will prepare students for professional practice in the power generation, transmission and distribution, demand side management and electricity supply, architecture and design, oil and gas, industrial processes, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, and transportation sectors.
Engr. Aldrin Calderon, dean of the Mapúa School of Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Energy Engineering said that this revolutionary program will provide the knowledge, exposure, and skills that Filipino students need to be globally competitive in the energy industry.
“Mapúa has always been at the forefront of producing globally responsive and innovative graduates. Part of which is our active response to the growing need for more professionals who can adopt, create, and promote renewable energy technologies that can tackle the effects of climate change”, added Calderon.
Truly a cutting-edge Mapúan program, Energy Engineering will produce industry-ready graduates for various sectors in power generation, energy transmission and generation, as well as supply and demand management.
“Energy engineers become vital in the adoption of renewable energy technologies and energy-efficient products. In fact, the global, regional, and national landscape of employment trends is rapidly evolving in the energy and sustainability sector along with the unprecedented surge of climate-related industries and services”, said Calderon.
Besides being fulfilling, lucrative careers await graduates of the Energy Engineering program. Solar consultant, one of the career paths for graduates, is cited as one of the best jobs in 2023 by international employment website Indeed due to its intensifying demand locally and internationally, good compensation, and opportunity for growth.
Graduates of the program may practice as engineers, consultants, or managers in the power, government and public, manufacturing, or real estate and commercial industries.
Mapúa’s college applications for A.Y. 2023-2024 are ongoing. Interested students may go to www.mapua.edu.ph/ApplyNow to apply.
