In the Philippines, Ajinomoto has a long history dating back to 1958 when AJINOMOTO PHILIPPINES CORPORATION (APC) was established. Over the years, APC has grown into a reputable food company providing Filipino consumers with delicious and nourishing meals promoting culinary confidence and nutrition alertness.
Eat Well, Live Well
Since its founding, the Ajinomoto Group has been committed to promoting nutritious and delicious meals and is working to address nutrition-related challenges. It aims to realize its vision of solving global food and health issues by using its expertise in Amino Science.
By 2030, the Ajinomoto Group would like to realize two outcomes: Help extend the healthy life expectancy of 1 billion people. Reduce our environmental impact by 50%, while improving business performance.
Environment Sustainability
In 2021, APC formed the Sustainability Committee, whose role is to lead the environmental efforts of the company. APC has set its comprehensive roadmap with a long-term outlook.
As a company doing its part in shaping a more sustainable future, APC Group took the lead in promoting responsible consumption through the launch of the iconic AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning 45g, the first seasoning in paper packaging in the Philippine market.
“This is a milestone for Ajinomoto as we continue our journey towards sustainability. With every purchase of AJI-NO-MOTO Umami Seasoning 45g, we want our customers to know that they are contributing to a more sustainable world,” says APC Group Chief Sustainability Officer Ernesto Carlos.
Since June 2022, APC Factory in Bulacan has been operating with renewable energy through solar power energization. This milestone has been made possible through partnership with Meralco-owned solar company Spectrum.
To create a synergy that will advance the company’s sustainability efforts, APC Group joined the Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Material Sustainability (PARMS) as an investing partner. PARMS is a multi-stakeholder coalition anchored on spearheading holistic and comprehensive programs to increase resource recovery and reduce landfill dependence.
Health & Nutrition
The Ajinomoto Group aims to help people live healthier lives through “Nutrition Without Comprise”. When nutritious food tastes good, is easily accessible, and respects local customs and flavors, global health can be optimized.
One of the health issues the Philippines faces is about Filipino’s high sodium intake which is more than twice the recommendation of the World Health Organization. A high sodium diet can have adverse health effects that can lead to hypertension, heart, and kidney disease.
Understanding consumers’ challenge on how to lessen sodium intake, APC launched BawAsin® (Bawasan ang paggamit ng asin at panatilihing masarap ang lutuin) campaign. This is an effort offering practical solutions to help consumers live healthier by reducing salt intake with sacrificing deliciousness.
Toward A Bright Future
APC is honored to be a steadfast partner of Filipino homes with its product being staples in the kitchen and its nutrition and sustainability efforts benefitting the society.
“As challenges around food and health become more diverse, we, at Ajinomoto, aim to contribute to improved health and eating habits for people around the world. In the local scene, Ajinomoto is partnering with like-minded organizations to lead the change for a better world and co-create a happy and healthier Philippine society,” APC President Koichi Ozaki said.
In the years to come, as a solution-providing company, APC is committed to being at the forefront working towards contributing to the health and well-being of Filipino society staying true to its promise to constantly be a partner in helping Filipinos eat well and live well.
