The Insular Foundation sponsored a Bread and Pastry Course to help Alternative Learning System (ALS) students pursue their own small businesses or secure jobs in the future.
The Foundation partnered with Bayanan ALS Community Learning Center and the Muntinlupa City Technical Institute (MCTI) to support the ALS Informal Education Program. The Foundation provided the kitchen equipment and baking ingredients, Bayanan ALS Center provided the kitchen facility, and MCTI conducted the Bread and Pastry training.
“As part of our goal to provide quality and inclusive education to all, the Insular Foundation has been supporting the Alternative Learning System since 2019. Bayanan ALS Center is the fifth center that the Insular Foundation supports, the first four centers received ICT materials and training courses. The Foundation hopes that the Bread and Pastry Course will open opportunities for livelihood or employment to our ALS students,” said Insular Foundation Program Manager Teresita Melad.
ALS learner Aiza Grampa thanked Insular Foundation, Bayanan ALS Center and MCTI for providing the livelihood course which will help her pursue her dream business. “Alam ko na magagamit ko ang mga natutunan ko sa training sa mga darating na panahon lalo na sa pag-abot sa aking pangarap na magkaroon ng sariling negosyo. Sana marami pa po kayong matulungan na estudyante na lumawak ang kaalaman at magkaroon ng kumpiyansa sa sarili,” she said.
MCTI Acting Head Francisco Santella encouraged the students to pursue their dream business or jobs in hotels and bakeshops.
The 27 ALS learners who completed the Bread and Pastry Course are eligible to take the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) National Certification which will give them additional credentials as bakers.
The Insular Foundation has been supporting the Department of Education’s ALS to help out-of-school youth and adults who are 16 years old or above complete basic education. Aside from Bayanan ALS Community Learning Center, the Foundation supports the ALS Centers of Pedro Guevara Elementary School in Manila, Muntinlupa City Jail, Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, and Tankulan in Bukidnon.
