Indonesian-Canadian musical artist and producer Jordan Astra has just released his latest track, “After Midnight.”
A student of Soul and R&B, Astra has crafted a sound that blends the musical styling of Pharrell and Jamiroquai with subtle influences from Bruno Mars and SG Lewis, creating something uniquely his own.
“After Midnight” captures the essence of late-night summers — when the sun is setting, and jumping back in the pool to cool off before heading out. The song was co-produced by Misha, who sent Astra the track in late summer of 2023, originally intended for the ‘MAN FROM EAST’ EP.
Their vision for the song was to celebrate the summer months. “We always wanted to make a song that pulled elements from our favourite people and bands. R&B and the music we’re making is the type of sound that keeps things upbeat,” Jordan Astra explains.
Astra started his career at university, where he was making beats. Over the years, he produced for local artists but felt collaborations never moved fast enough. This impatience pushed him to become the artist we know today.
With half of 2024 behind us, Jordan is looking ahead to his forthcoming project, ‘Far Deeper.’ The EP is the second instalment of his three-part series that delves into themes of unpredictability, uncertainty, and committing to that leap of faith. Recently signed to Mind of a Genius Records (Zhu, THEY., Gallant), Jordan Astra is now on the brink of breaking out as the artist that he knows he’s always been.
