Aligned with the positive results of its 18th annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, Lenovo Philippines is on a winning streak of leading inclusion in the workplace and proactive initiatives in improving the lives of communities while reducing its impact on the environment. From having greater women and PWD participation in technology to volunteerism through its Lenovo Month of Service last September, Lenovo remains steadfast in its sustainability mission.
In this year’s report, the global technology powerhouse shared its progress toward 2030 emissions reduction goals, increased participation in the circular economy, industry-leading representation of women in technical roles, increased employee volunteerism, and proactive governance of artificial intelligence (AI) as it works to become the leading provider and enabler of smarter AI.
“With the inevitable and unstoppable advancement in artificial intelligence, we are ensuring our customers are ready for the future,” said Michael Ngan, President and General Manager of Lenovo Philippines, Inc. “While we enhance the lives of Lenovo users with AI technologies, our company is equally committed to managing its environmental impact and bolstering our advocacy in tech literacy and equal employment opportunities.”
Greater women and PWD participation in technology
Local efforts in Lenovo’s Women in Lenovo Leadership, an employee resource group, has achieved 20% female executive representation by offering training and mentorship programs in the company. To date, 61% of Lenovo Philippines’ employees are women, a significant number for female representation in the workplace.
With its dedication to fostering inclusion at workplace, Lenovo under its global partnership with Ashoka, is working with Ashoka changemaker Ryan Gersava and Virtualahan, a Davao-based nongovernmental organization (NGO), to help people with disabilities develop the necessary digital skillset to work in in-demand industries.
Lenovo is working to increase diversity, inclusion, and access to technology internally and externally, recording a 29% representation of women in technical roles in this year’s report. Lenovo continues its pursuit of increasing diversity in its executive ranks, working to reach 27% women representation around the world and 35% representation of historically excluded talent in the U.S. by FY2025/26.
“Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our mission in the Philippines. By fostering a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve, we are better positioned to innovate and address the needs of our customers in the Philippine market. We remain firmly committed to creating opportunities for everybody, including women and individuals with disabilities, to thrive in the tech industry and contribute to our overall nation’s growth,” said Michael Ngan, President and General Manager of Lenovo Philippines, Inc.
Reducing impact on the environment
The report also revealed that Lenovo continues to increase its participation in the circular economy, increasing the use of sustainable materials and asset recycling and disposal. Since 2017, Lenovo has grown its reuse and recycling of products by nearly 40% through its product take-back programs. Lenovo has reused or recycled more than 94,000 metric tons of products through Product End-of-Life Management (PELM) programs since 2020 – the same weight as 87 million ThinkPads.
Love on Global Month of Service
For the Philippines market, Lenovo employees conducted a STEM activity for students at Better World Smokey Mountain, Tondo, Manila last September 20 2024. At the event, students were taught about meal preparation and composting, and received water filtration kits. Lenovo also held a storytelling activity, coinciding with their library book donation and toy drive. Last Oct. 4, Lenovo led sessions on nutrition and cooking, and candlemaking, and continued to share their insights on meal preparation.
These initiatives demonstrate Lenovo’s commitment to driving positive change. Through its vision of Smarter Technology for All, Lenovo is building a brighter, more sustainable future for its customers, employees, communities, and the planet. Through various community-focused programs, Lenovo has contributed to a global philanthropic impact of USD $21M (around P1.18 billion).
