Unless you have been living under a rock, you have definitely seen one or two of their out-of-the-box advertisements. Spun from the artistic minds of GIGIL, these bold yet relatable ads will either pique your curiosity or provoke your thoughts. But one should not expect anything less from the masters of creative imagination.
Known for its surreal take on advertising, independent Filipino ad agency GIGIL (a Tagalog word used to describe an overwhelming feeling of excitement) recently sent waves crashing across the advertising scene by being crowned for the second straight year as Campaign Brief Asia’s 2024 Philippine advertising agency of the year.
Campaign Brief Asia is the must-visit site for the latest in Asia’s advertising news, new campaigns, and creative awards show coverage. It chalks up the metal wins of 210 Asian advertising agencies across 12 of the biggest international creative awards shows, from January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2024.
These awards shows are the Cannes Lions, D&AD Awards, The One Show, Clio Awards, New York Festivals, London International Awards, AWARD Awards, Spikes Asia, ONE Asia Creative Awards, ADFEST, MAD STARS, and Campaign Brief Asia The Work.
“This recognition as Campaign Brief Asia’s 2024 Philippine Agency of The Year is not just a celebration of GIGIL’s creative work. This award underscores our belief that the future of advertising lies in building something real, something that resonates. We have proven that authenticity, driven by genuine insight, enables creativity to flourish and make brands connect on a human level,” said GIGIL’s Managing Partner Jake Yrastorza.
GIGIL’s win as 2024 Philippine Ad Agency of The Year was also welcomed by J-anne Aruta, Grab Philippines Country Head, and by Stef Pajarito, Country Head of Marketing for Netflix. GIGIL crafted award-winning ads for Grab and Netflix.
“As a true creative powerhouse, GIGIL’s strategic and insights-driven storytelling consistently captures the essence and mission of our brand. Our collaboration with GIGIL is not just a client-agency partnership; it embodies a shared vision to inspire and innovate, ensuring our audiences understand Grab’s commitment to being an enabler of a dynamic digital lifestyle. We proudly celebrate this well-deserved accolade with them,” said Aruta.
Pajarito meanwhile added that GIGIL’s win is a reflection of the agency’s innovative spirit and its appetite for creative risks. “At Netflix, we value vibrant storytelling that penetrates the cultural zeitgeist and drives conversations. This recognition is a testament to Gigil’s out-of-the-box creativity,” Pajarito said.
GIGIL was declared as the 2024 Philippine agency of the year after beating other Philippine advertising agencies and garnering the greatest number of points from wins in these awards shows.
Campaign Brief Asia also named GIGIL’s Chief Creative Officers Badong Abesamis and Herbert Hernandez as the “Philippines’ Most Awarded Creative Directors for 2024.” Abesamis and Hernandez were awarded the same title in 2023.
A Harvest Of Top Awards
In addition to its back-to-back in Campaign Brief Asia wins, GIGIL also won top honors for marketing effectiveness in the APAC Effies – a prestigious awards show in the region for the marketing effectiveness of advertising ideas. GIGIL is the only Philippine advertising agency to receive metals from the show for five consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).
But there is more to GIGIL than its innovative commercials. GIGIL is offering the advertising landscape a jolting paradigm shift. Its back-to-back Campaign Brief Asia wins prove that ads that cut across the grain can generate conversation despite appearing to be raw and unfiltered.
GIGIL has managed to position itself as a hub of creative and authentic advertising and a trusted partner of some of the top-selling brands. GIGIL’s use of humor and imaginative scenarios makes each advertisement unique and relatable.
