of The Peninsula Bangkok
Thailand is probably one of the most diverse and complex countries in Asia. Geographically halfway between India and China, it is hardly surprising that the cultures of its neighbors have influenced the development of its national cuisine.
A source of pride and wonder, Thai food is sweet, salty, sour and spicy, sometimes even slightly bitter, all in a single delicious mouthful. A good Thai chef always strives for balance of flavor, texture and color in a dish. An excellent Thai chef, however, cooks by “feel,” taking into account taste and preference. If something is too salty or too sweet – or if one is not used to the heat of chilis – they know just what to do to achieve a harmony of flavors that you’ll find in their aromatic soups and rich curries, stir-frys that sing with spice and fragrance, and savory noodles with a touch of heat and a smoky finish.
Monnipa “Ying” Rungthong, visiting Chef de Cuisine of The Peninsula Bangkok’s Thiptara Restaurant, is one such chef.

Renowned for her mastery of authentic home-style Thai cuisine, Chef Monnipa “Ying” Rungthong crafts dishes that evoke the warmth and depth of traditional Thai home cooking—now a rarity outside of private homes.
On May 30, Chef Ying will present her signature, four-course menu that skillfully blends traditional Thai flavors with modern flair, in the style that she is known for. Guest can expect delicacies such as Pla Tod Yum Mamuang (crispy seabass and green mango salad), Tom Yam Goong Maenam (traditional tom yum goong), Nua Yang Jim Jeaw (grilled beef tenderloin), and the Khao Niew Mamuang (mango sticky rice) elevated further by the restaurant’s inspired and stylish plating.
An enticing selection of handcrafted cocktails and bespoke beverages infused with Thai-inspired flavors—expertly crafted by The Peninsula’s skilled mixologists—will be available to complement Chef Ying’s special Thiptara-inspred menu.
Adding to the excitement, Chef Ying’s rich and authentic Thai specialties are set to make a delicious debut on the Spices menu this June.
