In a move to empower Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) officially launched its Tap-to-Phone payment solution, becoming the first commercial bank in the Philippines to introduce this innovative technology.
RCBC Tap-to-Phone transforms any NFC-enabled Android smartphone into a secure point-of-sale (POS) terminal without the need for traditional card readers. It also generates QR codes and electronic receipts, making it easier for MSMEs to streamline their sales and payment tracking.
Mr. Reggie B. Cariaso, RCBC President and CEO relayed, “This isn’t just a payment tool. It’s an equalizer. It’s a way to bring more people into the formal economy. To help our small businesses grow stronger, earn faster, and serve better.”
RCBC’s Tap-to-Phone is part of the bank’s broader commitment to financial inclusion and innovation, enabling even the smallest vendors to join the digital payments ecosystem with minimal cost and maximum ease.
“With Tap-to-Phone, we’re breaking barriers that once seemed impossible. Imagine this: with just a smartphone — a seller can now accept card payments, safely and instantly, without the need for bulky terminals, costly hardware, or complicated setup. This is not just a convenience. This is a game-changer.” said Arniel Vincent B. Ong, RCBC Credit Cards President and CEO.
The launch event featured 25 accredited Mercato Centrale merchants who showcased the convenience of cashless transactions by accepting Mastercard and Visa credit and debit card payments—simply by letting customers tap their cards or mobile wallets on an NFC-enabled Android smartphone.
