Peugeot Philippines recently crowned its first ever Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO) champions after six (6)months of tennis action in five (5) qualifying legs around the country.The PPTO champions will experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch the French Open (Roland-Garros) live this May 2016, as well as visit the brand’s headquarters in Paris.
Philippines’ No. 3 Johnny Arcilla triumphed over Roel Capangpangan in a landslide victory with the score of 6-1,6-0,6-0.
Meanwhile, top seed Marian Capadocia bagged the women’s singles championship, beating Clarice Patrimonio. The first set was a tight duel between the two, but Marian dominated the second set, sealing the win with the score of 7-5,6-1. Marian Capadocia was the women’s singles champion during the Manila leg.
Johnny Arcilla continued his winning streak. After a heart-stopping two-set showdown,Johnny, together with Philippines’ No. 4 Patrick John Tierro, beat his younger brother Joseph and his partner Kim Saraza to become the PPTO Men’s Doubles Champions.The Arcilla-Tierro duo attributed teamwork and passion as key factors to bagging thec rown.
The Women’s Doubles title was extra special for Marian Capadocia, who teamed up with her sister Jade to defeat Marinel Rudas and Edilyn Balanga in the finals. Victory didn’t come easy for the Capadocia sisters, however, as the exhilarating match lasted three sets. In the end, Marian sealed the win for their team with the score of 6-3,6-3,10-6.
“Winning both the singles and doubles championship feels great as my sister (Jella) and I normally don’t play together,” Marian Capadocia mused. “Going to Paris is a dream come true for my sister and we’re so excited to watch the French Open and see the City of Lights.”
The Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open aimed to identify and empower gifted tennis players in the country, and give these athletes the opportunity to be recognized on both national & international levels.
