Cinema One makes late night cable viewing on Wednesdays a lot more exciting with “Cinema One Originals Presents” offering genuinely interesting stories with this month’s features “Mater Dolorosa,” “Sa Ilalim ng Tulay” and “Bitukang Manok.”

“Mater Dolorosa” is a family drama film starring Gina Alajar as the titular character. It’s a story about a matriarch who tries to keep her family intact while heading her husband’s crime group. A new mayor steps in, forcing her to change the way she runs her business. Among the film’s recognitions are the 2013 Golden Screen Awards Best Actress nod for Gina, the 2013 Star Awards for Movies Best Supporting Actor for Carlo Aquino and the 2013 Gawad Urian Best Director for Adolf Alix, Jr.

Also showing in this month’s “Cinema One Originals Presents” is “Sa Ilalim ng Tulay,” a dramedy directed by Earl Bontuyan. It follows the story of an Aeta family who gets displaced by the Mt. Pinatubo eruption and decides to travel to Manila to look for a family member. Bong Cabrera, Chris Pasturan, Remi Tolentino, Michael Bonapos and Mon Confiado star in this highly entertaining movie that looks at poverty in a different light.

The film “Bitukang Manok” is another must-watch this month of May. When three groups of strangers lose their way in the long winding road connecting Quezon and Bicol, they discover that they are unable to leave due to unexplained, supernatural forces. The film is directed by Alec Figuracion and stars Missy Maramara, Guji Lorenza, Ken Anderson, Teri Malvar and Mara Lopez.

Catch “Mater Dolorosa” on May 17, “Sa Ilalim ng Tulay” on May 24 and “Bitukang Manok” on May 31 on “Cinema One Originals Presents,” Wednesdays at 11PM. Cinema One is available on Skycable Channel 56, Destiny Cable Analog 37, and Digital 57.
