The Philippines’ leading enterprise for water, used water, and environmental solutions, Manila Water Company, Inc. showcased its 20 years of successful experience in transforming the lives of many communities within and outside the archipelago through the provision of its world-class services and expertise during the 12th National Annual Convention of the Water and Environment Association of the Philippines (WEAP) held in Crowne Plaza Manila.
This year’s convention, aptly themed ‘Water Environment in a Changing Climate’, featured the enterprise’s services and solutions in response to the various needs of its customers and stakeholders from the East Zone of Metro Manila to other geographies in the Philippines such as Boracay, Bulacan, Cebu, Clark in Pampanga, Davao del Norte, Laguna, Pangasinan, and Zamboanga.
For the past 20 years since it began its operations of the eastern service area of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Manila Water has been instrumental in uplifting the lives of many Filipinos particularly of the marginalized groups, and has supported the economic viability of different locales by making clean, safe, reliable water supply accessible and by putting forward proper used water management. To date, the East Zone concessionaire provides 24/7 water and used water services to more than 6.5 million residents in eastern Metro Manila and Rizal Province while reducing its level of water losses to 11%, which is unprecedented in the Philippine water sector. This success is now being replicated outside the Philippines through the enterprise’s operating units in Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar.
The WEAP Convention was a two-day event that brought together policy makers, businesses, and leaders in the water industry, and other stakeholders aimed to inspire sustainable programs that may address various environmental issues/concerns. The event featured the keynote speech of Senator Loren Legarda who called on different concerned sectors to heighten the public’s understanding on issues and threats posed to the country’s water security and to collaborate in addressing this pressing environmental threat.
